An 80W amalgam option for enclosed pond-filter installations
The Filtreau 80W Amalgam Submersible UV Unit is the larger in-chamber option for suspended-algae control. It is supplied with a tank connector so the lamp assembly can be installed in a suitable filtration chamber rather than a separate inline UV housing.
Its 660 mm module length needs adequate chamber space and a clear service route. The lamp must be safely shielded and installed at the correct water level; “submersible” does not mean the complete electrical assembly can simply be dropped into an open pond.
Treatment depends on the installation
UV-C acts on suspended green-water algae as water passes the treatment area. The reference flow is 22,000 litres/hour at a dose of 30 mJ/cm². Actual exposure depends on the chamber arrangement and water conditions, so that figure should not be treated as a universal pond-size guarantee.
The UV does not remove solid debris or biologically process ammonia and nitrite. Keep mechanical and biological filtration appropriate to the pond even when the water becomes visibly clearer.
Match the module to the chamber
Check the available length, tank connection, operating water level and shielding before purchase. Also leave room to withdraw the lamp and quartz during servicing. A protected location is required for the control gear and electrical connections.
The 40W amalgam module is shorter and may suit another treatment duty. An 80W high-output Excellent unit is a different lamp family; the same power rating does not make its lamp, quartz or control gear interchangeable with this amalgam model.

Replacement parts and safe maintenance
The nominal lamp life is 12,000 hours. Replace the lamp according to the unit’s service instructions rather than waiting for it to stop glowing, and keep the quartz clear of deposits that reduce UV transmission.
Select the correct 80W amalgam replacement lamp and matching quartz sleeve for the installed unit. If the control gear has failed, a replacement lamp alone will not correct that fault. Isolate power, allow cooling and keep the UV fully shielded whenever energised; never inspect it by looking at an exposed operating lamp.
