In-chamber green-water control with a 40W amalgam UV-C unit
The Filtreau 40W Amalgam Submersible UV Unit provides green-water treatment within a suitable filtration chamber. Its lamp assembly is installed using the included tank connector, rather than requiring water to pass through a separate conventional inline housing.
This is an installation component, not a lamp to place loose in an open pond. The UV-C must be correctly mounted, submerged as specified and completely shielded from people and animals, with the electrical control gear kept in an appropriate protected position.
What amalgam UV-C treats
UV-C helps control suspended algae responsible for green water. The water’s clarity, exposure to the lamp and the flow through the treatment area all affect the result. It does not mechanically remove debris or take the place of biological filtration for ammonia and nitrite.
The 40W module has a reference flow of 18,000 litres/hour at a specified UV dose of 30 mJ/cm². That is a treatment reference, not a guaranteed pond-volume rating or a promise of the same dose in any arbitrarily shaped chamber. Match the installation and flow to the intended treatment duty.
Choosing between 40W and 80W
The 80W amalgam module is the larger option and needs more installation length. Do not choose solely on wattage: check the available chamber space, shielding, operating water level and the amount of water actually exposed to the lamp.
The module length is 360 mm, but leave additional clearance for removal and servicing. A unit that can be installed but cannot be withdrawn without dismantling the filter is not a practical fit.

Maintaining useful UV output
Keep the quartz free of deposits using the approved cleaning method, and replace the lamp according to its service requirements. The nominal lamp life is 12,000 hours; visible light alone is not evidence that UV-C output remains adequate.
Use the correct 40W replacement lamp and amalgam quartz sleeve. These components are not automatically interchangeable with high-output stainless-steel Excellent modules. Isolate power and allow the equipment to cool before servicing, and never energise an exposed UV lamp to check whether it works.
