Blagdon MiniPond Replacement Pre-Filter Foams

Choose the correct replacement foam for your MiniPond fountain pump

These genuine Blagdon pre-filter foams replace the removable foam inside compatible MiniPond fountain pump cages. Choose the option that matches your pump model and replacement-part reference. The MiniPond 700, MiniPond 900 Mk2 and MiniPond 2000 use different listed parts, so the pump name matters when ordering. This is a replacement foam listing: the pump, outer cage, impeller and fountain accessories are supplied separately.

A pump pre-filter foam sits at the water intake, where it collects debris before that material reaches the pump and fountain assembly. Blagdon describes optional pre-filter foam as useful for reducing daisy-jet blockages. It is a service item for an existing pump rather than a complete pond filtration system. If you need replacement media for a MiniPond filter box, that is a different product range.

Model and part-number guide

Option Blagdon part reference Selection guidance
MiniPond 700 1017862 Choose for the MiniPond 700 pump.
MiniPond 900 Mk2 1017879 Choose for the MiniPond 900 Mk2. Blagdon’s combined 700/900/1600 manual also identifies this reference for the 900/1600 assembly.
MiniPond 2000 1040501 Choose for the MiniPond 2000 pump.

Start with the model label on the pump itself, then compare the spare reference in its instruction manual. A filter-box capacity, fountain height or the size of your pond is not a substitute for the pump model. Keep the old foam and cage available while checking the replacement, particularly if the equipment has been in service for several years and its original packaging is no longer available.

If the model label is difficult to read, photographs of the pump, its cage and the old foam can help us identify the correct option. Include any legible part numbers. It is better to resolve that detail before ordering than to try to compress, trim or stretch an unsuitable foam into the available space.

When should the foam be replaced?

First distinguish a dirty foam from a damaged one. Debris held in an otherwise sound foam may be removable during routine cleaning. Replacement becomes appropriate when the foam is torn, breaking apart or no longer sits properly in its intended position. A new foam does not repair a cracked cage, worn impeller or damaged pump, so inspect those components separately if the problem persists.

A weak fountain display can have more than one cause. Look at the intake cage, foam, fountain head and flow-control setting before deciding which spare to order. Buying a replacement foam solely because the fountain has become shorter may leave the underlying obstruction untouched. Equally, repeatedly cleaning the fountain head without checking the intake can miss debris building up elsewhere.

Cleaning and fitting

For the MiniPond 700/900/1600 range, Blagdon instructs owners to disconnect the electricity before handling the pump, remove it without lifting by its cable, pull off the pre-filter cage and wash the removable foam thoroughly in fresh water. The manual recommends routine attention when flow visibly reduces. Follow the instructions supplied with your own model, including the separate MiniPond 2000 manual where applicable.

Work somewhere that lets you keep the cage, foam and any removable fittings together. Compare the replacement with the part removed and check that it seats naturally. Refit the cage correctly before returning the pump to service. If something prevents the cage closing normally, stop and check the model and assembly rather than forcing it into position.

After restarting the pump, check the fountain pattern and water flow. Watch for water being directed outside the pond and adjust the display where needed. Keep the pump accessible for future maintenance; placing equipment where it can only be reached by pulling its cable makes routine care unnecessarily difficult.

Use the foam for the appropriate application

Foam is not automatically required for every way a MiniPond pump can be used. Blagdon’s 700/900/1600 instructions specify removing the optional foam for water-feature operation. Follow the setup guidance for the actual application rather than assuming extra foam always improves performance. Fountain use and supplying a water feature can call for different intake arrangements.

Likewise, fitting a pump foam does not replace the pond’s main mechanical and biological filtration. It does not provide UV treatment and should not be purchased as a treatment for green water. Choose it to maintain the compatible pump and fountain arrangement for which it was designed.

Complete your maintenance check

Before ordering, decide whether you need the foam alone or a replacement MiniPond impeller as well. The cage, impeller and fountain fittings have separate jobs and separate part references. Inspect the assembly while it is accessible, note anything damaged and match each required item to the same pump model. That makes it easier to complete the maintenance in one visit to the pond.

For MiniPond filter-box owners, replacement carbon, wool and graded filter foams belong to the filter’s own media range. Those pads should not be confused with the small pump pre-filter sold here. If you are unsure which part you have, check whether it was removed from the pump’s intake cage or from a separate filter box before selecting a replacement.
