Blagdon MiniPond and MidiPond Replacement Filter Media
Genuine graded foams, carbon pads and polymer wool for Blagdon box filters
This page brings together the three routine media packs most easily confused in the Blagdon box-filter range. The MiniPond graded foam set provides coarse, medium and fine mechanical stages. The six-set MiniPond and MidiPond consumable packs combine activated-carbon pads with fine polymer wool, but their physical sizes and compatible filters differ.
Select by the exact filter label and Blagdon part number. The MiniPond media fits the 4500, 6000, 9000 and 12000 family. The larger MidiPond carbon/wool pack is for 10000, 14000, 20000 and 28000 filters.

What each media stage does
The three graded foam sheets slow and distribute the water while trapping progressively smaller debris. Once mature, their pores also support bacteria. Rinse them in removed pond water and replace only when torn, hardened or permanently compressed.
Polymer wool catches the finest suspended particles and will need changing when it clogs or cannot be cleaned without losing its structure. Activated carbon adsorbs many dissolved organic compounds, odours, colour and some treatment residues. Its capacity is finite, so it must be renewed rather than judged by appearance.
Do not use fresh activated carbon during a pond treatment unless the treatment instructions specifically require it, because carbon can remove active ingredients. After a medication course it may be useful when the manufacturer recommends clearing residual treatment from the water.
Installation and maintenance
- Switch off and isolate the pump and UVC before opening the filter.
- Photograph the original media order and preserve the direction of water flow.
- Rinse new foam or wool in clean water without detergent.
- Never disinfect mature biological foam or wash it aggressively in chlorinated tap water.
- Replace clogged wool and exhausted carbon at an interval suited to the pond load, not simply by calendar.
- Restart the filter, check normal flow and test water quality after a major media change.
Browse further pond-filter spares and filter media, or compare complete pond filters if the box, UVC and fittings are all heavily worn.
Frequently asked questions
Does the six-pack contain six complete pairs?
Yes. The listed carbon/wool packs contain six carbon pads and six polymer-wool pads.
Will the MiniPond pads fit a MidiPond?
No. Select the MidiPond 1060011 pack for the larger 10000–28000 family.
How often should carbon be replaced?
It depends on water chemistry and dissolved contaminant load. Activated carbon can be exhausted without looking dirty, so follow the filter and treatment guidance.
Should foam be replaced when it turns brown?
No. Staining is normal. Replace it when the physical structure fails or permanent compaction prevents correct flow and cleaning.
Can carbon remove pond medication?
Yes, it can adsorb active ingredients. Remove or bypass it during treatment unless the medication instructions say otherwise.
