The Blagdon Affinity Mocha Octagon Pool is the model to choose when you want a raised patio pond to feel like a genuine garden feature rather than a small container of water. The complete kit combines mocha-weave panels, black anodised aluminium rails, a fibre-reinforced liner, two planting baskets and the Blagdon InPond 5-in-1 3000 system. Circulation, mechanical and biological filtration, 5W UVC clarification, three fountain displays and an automatic night-time LED are all included.

At approximately 102cm across and 60cm high, this is a proper focal point for a patio, courtyard or deck. It needs more floor area and a much stronger base than the 133- and 141-litre models, but the larger water volume makes it the most convincing choice for customers who want both plants and a modest collection of ornamental fish.

The InPond 5-in-1 3000 life-support system

The supplied InPond 3000 is sized for this larger pool. Water passes through mechanical and biological filter stages before returning through the chosen fountain head. Its integrated 5W UVC helps control suspended green-water algae, and the automatic LED gives a view after dusk. Keeping these functions together makes installation neat and ensures the components have been selected as a system.

Good maintenance still matters. Rinse polymer-wool and mechanical media when the flow begins to fall, but use removed pond water around established biological media. Check the impeller, fountain stem and intake for debris, particularly after leaf fall. Replace the UV lamp and consumables with parts intended for the InPond 3000.

A UVC only treats water passing through the unit. It does not correct overfeeding, excessive fish load or poor water chemistry, so regular pond-water testing remains important.

Base, access and installation planning

Four hundred litres of water weighs approximately 400kg. Once the structure, filter, plants and decorative media are included, the total is higher. Build on a smooth, solid and perfectly level base with proven load-bearing capacity. This is especially important on decking: check the structure beneath, not just the boards you can see.

Allow working room around the pool. The InPond unit must be removable for service, the windows need occasional wiping and the electrical connection must remain accessible. Avoid roof run-off, unstable paving and locations where garden furniture will repeatedly strike the walls.

Assemble in the order shown in the current manual, position the liner carefully and fill gradually while removing large creases. Never try to move or re-level the pool while it contains water.

Establishing the pond for fish

Condition the full volume of new tap water with a dechlorinator. Run the system and add fish gradually rather than filling the pool and fully stocking it on the same day. Test ammonia and nitrite frequently while the biological media mature.

The 400-litre volume gives more flexibility than the compact View models, but it remains a small pond. Keep only a modest number of small ornamental pond fish and allow for their adult size. It is not suitable for koi. Provide shade and aeration during hot weather, feed to the filter’s real capacity and reduce feeding when temperatures fall.

Outdoor electrical connection

Fixed outdoor equipment is supplied without a domestic indoor plug. Use a suitable RCD-protected outdoor supply and a weatherproof connector such as the Blagdon PowerSafe outdoor connector. Use a qualified electrician where the installation requires one.
