A freestanding raised pond with underwater viewing from three sides
The Blagdon Affinity View Octagon Pool is a complete 141-litre raised pond for patios, courtyards and garden seating areas where a traditional in-ground pond is not practical. Its balanced octagonal footprint looks natural when viewed from several directions, and three shatter-resistant windows make the fish, plants and movement below the surface part of the display.
Everything important has been planned as one system: mocha-weave panels, black anodised aluminium rails, fibre-reinforced liner, planting basket and a Blagdon InPond 5-in-1 2000 unit combining circulation, filtration, UVC clarification, fountain and LED illumination. That avoids the untidy collection of separate pumps, boxes and cables that can overwhelm a compact raised pool.
This is the better of the two compact Affinity shapes when the pond will stand away from a wall or be seen from several seats. At approximately 74.5cm across and 46cm high it remains modest in scale, but its 141-litre volume creates a convincing small water garden.
Key reasons to choose the View Octagon
- Freestanding design: the symmetrical footprint suits central patio and deck positions.
- Three viewing windows: underwater life remains visible from different directions.
- Complete InPond system: pump, mechanical and biological filtration, UVC, fountain and LED are coordinated.
- Three fountain displays: alter the surface effect without replacing the pump.
- Integrated planting: one basket is supplied for a compact marginal plant.
- Raised access: enjoy the pool without kneeling at ground level.
- No excavation: assemble it on a smooth, stable and completely level surface.
How the InPond 5-in-1 system supports the pool
The 650 l/h InPond 5-in-1 2000 draws water through filter media, circulates it and returns it through the selected fountain fitting. Mechanical media trap debris, biological media support beneficial bacteria, and the integrated 5W UVC helps the filter collect suspended algae responsible for green water. The LED adds a view after dark.
“All in one” means the functions share a compact housing; it does not mean the unit is maintenance-free. Check flow regularly, rinse mechanical pads in removed pond water, protect the established biological media from chlorine and inspect the impeller and fountain stem if the display becomes weak. The correct Blagdon InPond maintenance parts should be matched to the 2000 model.
Siting and assembly
Prepare the base before opening the liner. It must be smooth, rigid and completely level. The water weighs about 141kg before the structure, equipment, plants and decorative gravel are added, so confirm that decking or a balcony-style platform is designed for the total load.
Keep service access around at least one side. You will need to remove the filter, clean the windows and reach the cabling without dragging the filled pond away from a wall. Avoid placing it beneath trees that shed large quantities of leaves or where a roof outlet can introduce dirty rainwater.
During assembly, follow the panel order and do not use power tools where the manufacturer specifies hand assembly. Fill gradually and smooth the liner as the water level rises. If the finished waterline is not level, drain and correct the base rather than packing an individual foot under load.
Adding water, plants and fish properly
Treat tap water with a suitable dechlorinator before it contacts fish or mature filter media. Allow the system to run, add any fish gradually and use reliable pond water tests to monitor ammonia, nitrite and pH while the biological filter develops.
The View Octagon can support a small number of appropriately sized ornamental pond fish, but 141 litres is not a koi pond and should not be heavily stocked. Feed sparingly, especially while the filter matures or in cool weather. If you want more stable water temperature and more stocking headroom, choose the larger 400-litre Mocha model.
Plants give the pool scale and shelter. Use the included basket for a compact marginal and consider modest oxygenating or floating cover without blocking the fountain. Browse our UK-grown aquatic plant range for suitable options.

Electrical connection and seasonal care
The fixed outdoor equipment does not use an indoor three-pin plug. Connect it to an RCD-protected outdoor supply with an appropriate weatherproof connector such as the Blagdon PowerSafe; involve a qualified electrician where required.
Remove leaves and wipe the windows before deposits harden. The pool can remain outdoors, but the pump/filter must not freeze solid. Follow the current Blagdon instructions for winter operation or frost-free storage of removable equipment, and never smash surface ice.
Compare the Affinity raised pools
Choose the 133-litre Half Moon when a flat-backed pool and waterfall suit the site. Choose this View Octagon for a compact freestanding display. Choose the 400-litre Mocha Octagon for more water, larger windows, two planting baskets and the higher-capacity InPond 3000 system.

Frequently asked questions
How many viewing windows are fitted?
The View Octagon has three shatter-resistant windows.
Does it include a waterfall?
No separate waterfall outlet is listed for this model. It includes three fountain display options.
Can it be positioned in the middle of a patio?
Yes. Its freestanding octagonal shape is particularly suitable where it can be seen from several sides.
Is the filter included?
Yes. The InPond 5-in-1 2000 unit is part of the complete kit.
Can it hold koi?
No. The water volume is unsuitable for koi. Stock only a small number of appropriately sized ornamental pond fish.
What base does it need?
A smooth, rigid, stable and completely level base capable of supporting the filled weight.
Are the windows glass?
Blagdon describes them as shatter-resistant viewing windows rather than conventional glass panels.
Does the UVC remove blanket weed?
No. A UVC helps control suspended green-water algae; it does not directly remove attached blanket weed.
Can I leave it running all year?
Follow Blagdon’s seasonal instructions and ensure the equipment cannot freeze solid. Continuous circulation is useful when fish are present and conditions permit safe operation.
How is it different from the Mocha Octagon?
The Mocha Octagon holds 400 litres, is larger and taller, includes two planting baskets and uses the InPond 3000 system.
