Complete raised ponds and patio pool kits

These Blagdon raised ponds make it possible to add water, planting and wildlife interest without excavating a conventional liner pond. The range covers the mains-free Liberty Solar Nature Pool and three filtered Affinity viewing pools for patios, courtyards and suitable decking.

The important choice is not simply the shape. Decide whether the pool is primarily for wildlife or fish, measure the finished footprint, confirm that the base can carry the filled weight and decide whether a reliable outdoor electrical supply is available. We have checked the capacities, equipment and supplied components of each model so you can compare them properly.

Choose the right Blagdon raised pool

  • Liberty Solar Nature Pool: 190 litres, mains-free fountain, planting beach and wildlife ladder. Best for plants and wildlife.
  • Affinity View Half Moon: 133 litres, flat-backed shape, three windows, waterfall and InPond 2000. Best beside a wall or fence.
  • Affinity View Octagon: 141 litres, three windows and InPond 2000. Best as a compact freestanding patio pond.
  • Affinity Mocha Octagon: 400 litres, larger windows, two planting baskets and InPond 3000. Best for a more substantial raised pond.

How to plan a raised pond that works well

A raised pond is easier to introduce than a large excavation, but it still contains a considerable weight of water. One litre weighs approximately one kilogram, so a 400-litre pool already carries about 400kg before its structure, equipment, plants and decorative media are counted. The surface must be smooth, stable and completely level. If the pool is going onto decking, assess the supporting structure rather than only the visible boards.

Think about access as well as appearance. Filters need lifting out, viewing windows need wiping and plants need thinning. Leave enough room to work without moving a filled pool. Avoid roof run-off, unstable paving and positions where falling leaves will overwhelm a compact water volume.

Wildlife pool or filtered fish pool?

The Liberty Solar is a wildlife-led pool with a bathing beach, planting pocket and escape ladder. Its fountain operates in direct sunlight, but there is no continuous biological filter. We therefore recommend it primarily for wildlife and aquatic plants.

The Affinity pools include Blagdon InPond equipment and are designed for plants and modest numbers of small ornamental pond fish. Even the 400-litre model is not suitable for koi. Establish the filter gradually, dechlorinate new water and test ammonia and nitrite rather than treating clear-looking water as proof that the pool is ready.

Planting a patio pond

Good planting makes a small pool look settled and provides shade, cover and nutrient competition. Combine compact marginal plants with suitable oxygenators and restrained floating cover. Use aquatic baskets and aquatic compost rather than adding garden soil loose to the water.

Filtration, UVC and water care

The Affinity InPond units combine circulation, mechanical and biological filtration, UVC clarification, a fountain and LED lighting. Rinse dirty mechanical media in removed pond water, preserve beneficial bacteria and clear debris from the impeller and fountain outlets when flow falls. A UVC helps control suspended green water; it does not replace good stocking, feeding and water testing.

Use a suitable tap-water conditioner whenever untreated mains water is added in a quantity that may affect fish or filter bacteria. For electrical models, use an RCD-protected outdoor supply and an appropriate weatherproof connection such as the Blagdon PowerSafe connector.

Frequently asked questions about raised patio ponds

Do raised ponds need a perfectly level base?

Yes. A level waterline is important for appearance and for distributing the load correctly around the structure.

Can a raised pond go on decking?

Only if the complete deck structure is capable of supporting the filled weight. Ask a competent professional if there is any doubt.

Which model does not need mains electricity?

The Liberty Solar Nature Pool uses a direct-solar fountain and has no mains connection.

Which model fits best against a wall?

The Affinity View Half Moon has a flat back and includes a waterfall, making it the natural boundary-side choice.

Which is the largest Blagdon pool here?

The Affinity Mocha Octagon holds approximately 400 litres.

Can koi live in an Affinity pool?

No. These pools are too small for koi. Limit stocking to modest numbers of suitably sized ornamental pond fish.

Are fish included?

No. The products are pool and equipment kits; livestock and plants are separate.

Are aquatic plants included?

No. Planting baskets or pockets are supplied as stated, but the plants and planting media are purchased separately.

Do the Affinity pools include a filter?

Yes. The compact View models use the InPond 5-in-1 2000 and the 400-litre Mocha model uses the InPond 5-in-1 3000.

What does a UVC do?

It helps control suspended algae that cause green water. It does not directly kill or remove attached blanket weed.

Can I add fish immediately after filling?

No. Dechlorinate the water, run the equipment and allow the biological filter to establish. Add fish gradually and test ammonia and nitrite.

How often should an InPond filter be cleaned?

Clean according to the actual flow and debris load rather than a fixed calendar. Check more often in warm weather and during leaf fall.

Can the pools remain outside in winter?

They are outdoor pools. Follow the current manufacturer winter instructions and prevent pumps, filters and the water body from freezing solid.

Is the Liberty fountain continuous?

No. It responds to the sunlight reaching the panel and will slow or stop in shade, cloud and darkness.

How do I keep the viewing windows clear?

Wipe deposits regularly with a material suitable for the window surface. Avoid abrasive tools that may scratch it.

What happens if the waterline is uneven?

Drain the pool and correct the base. Do not try to pack one corner while the structure is carrying water.

Do I need a pond dechlorinator?

Yes when using tap water around fish, plants or established filter bacteria, unless the supply has already been treated by a suitable system.

Can I use ordinary garden soil?

No. Use aquatic compost in baskets and cap it with washed aquatic gravel to reduce clouding and nutrient release.

Which pool is best for wildlife?

The Liberty Solar is designed specifically around wildlife access, bird bathing and planting.

Which Affinity pool is best when water stability matters?

The 400-litre Mocha Octagon has the largest volume and therefore changes temperature more slowly than the 133- and 141-litre models.
