This is the genuine Oase 50947 replacement sieve set for a compatible ProfiClear Premium or Compact-L drum filter. The pack contains eight screen elements with a nominal 150 µm mesh. It is a replacement for the drum’s mechanical screens, not a complete drum filter, pump, spray-rinse assembly, UV clarifier or biological-media pack. Match the model and existing screen frame before ordering: the ProfiClear name covers more than one drum size and generation.

The 150-micron grade is the coarsest of the 30, 60 and 150 µm options offered for this screen family. Oase explains that its larger openings allow more very fine material and small aquatic organisms to pass through. The trade-off is that the drum may need fewer automatic rinse cycles and less rinse water than with a finer mesh, depending on what the pond sends to it. That can make this grade useful where rinse frequency or water use matters more than the finest possible mechanical polish. It does not mean that the pond needs no cleaning or that all installations will halve their rinse cycles.

What the mesh rating actually tells you

One micron is one thousandth of a millimetre. A 150 µm mesh is intended to stop larger suspended particles while allowing smaller particles through. It does not remove dissolved nutrients, chemical contaminants or microorganisms that can pass the openings. Nor should it be confused with a UV steriliser. Waste retained on the rotating drum is carried to the spray rinse and then discharged through the filter’s waste route. Downstream biological media still does the separate work of processing dissolved fish waste.

Compare this grade with the 60 µm ProfiClear replacement set and the 30 µm fine-screen set. Finer mesh can catch more suspended solids before they reach the biological stage, although it may increase the cleaning burden if the source water carries heavy waste. A coarser screen can make the drum less sensitive to frequent loading but allows more fines onward. Choose according to the actual pond, stocking, feeding, leaf fall, water supply and desired maintenance pattern rather than treating the lowest micron number as automatically best.

Check compatibility before buying

Oase lists part 50947 as a ProfiClear Premium 150 µm sieve set. It is used in compatible larger ProfiClear Premium drum arrangements, including pump-fed and gravity-fed versions; fitment references also mention Compact-L. That does not make it a universal sieve for every ProfiClear Compact or BioTec drum. Check the drum’s exact model number, age and the part number on its service diagram. A Compact-M screen, an individual replacement frame and a full eight-panel set are different purchasing decisions.

Owners of a ProfiClear Premium Compact-L pump-fed filter or Compact-L gravity-fed filter should confirm the screen-frame style and number of installed panels against the machine they own. Also check whether your existing drum has 60 µm screens: moving to 150 µm is a change of filtration grade, not simply a like-for-like repair.

When a coarser screen may help

Frequent flushing uses water and sends more discharge to the waste drain. Where the current grade is cleaning unusually often, a larger mesh may be part of the answer, but first inspect the basics: spray nozzles, rinse pressure, waste outlet, sensor position, control settings, and incoming solids. A blocked rinse jet or fouled mesh will not be fixed by merely changing grade. Heavy feeding and seasonal leaf fall can also raise rinse demand temporarily.

On a wildlife or natural pond, Oase notes that a coarser screen can allow some small organisms through. That is a consideration, not a promise about particular species or a substitute for managing the whole habitat. On a koi pond, think about whether letting more fine waste reach the biological stage is acceptable in exchange for potentially less frequent rinsing. Watch the downstream chambers after a grade change; if they become dirty faster, the time saved at the drum may be lost later.

Fitting and first-run checks

Use the service procedure for the exact ProfiClear model. Isolate the electrical supply, make the water circuit safe and note how the original panels sit before removing them. Clean the screen seats, inspect the seals and retaining pieces, and replace damaged clips with the right Oase spares. Do not bend or press on the mesh to make a panel fit. If a new screen resists seating, stop and check the frame version rather than forcing it.

After fitting all eight elements, restore the filter and observe several drum turns and rinse cycles. Look for unfiltered bypass at panel edges, unusual rubbing, spray jets missing sections of mesh and water going somewhere other than the waste line. Compare the rinse frequency with the prior installation over a few days of normal use, allowing for weather, feed and leaf load. Keep the old screens only if they remain serviceable and labelled by grade; mixed mesh sizes around one drum should not be improvised without Oase guidance.
