Filtreau "Excellent" Leaf Catcher S
Catch bulky debris before it reaches your drum filter
The Excellent Leaf Catcher S is intended for ponds where leaves, twigs and bulky debris put extra pressure on the drum filter. Fitted upstream in a gravity-fed circuit, it creates an accessible place to intercept that material before it reaches the drum and its waste channel.
It is particularly useful to consider beside a tree-lined pond or where seasonal leaf fall repeatedly obstructs the mechanical filter. The benefit is easier access to the incoming debris, not a promise that the rest of the system will no longer need cleaning.
A first stage before the drum
The Leaf Catcher uses a polypropylene screen with stainless-steel mesh. It reduces the load of incoming material on the following drum, helping protect the rinse outlet from bulky debris. Keep the retained material accessible for removal so it does not become a permanent store of decomposing leaves.
The unit is designed for gravity-fed installation. Its operating level and connecting pipework need to suit the pond and downstream drum. It is not a replacement for the drum’s automatic cleaning system, biological filtration or UV-C.
Flow and the filter-area layout
Maximum flow is 65,000 litres/hour. Six 110 mm inlets and seven outlets offer several connection possibilities, but use only a properly designed branch arrangement with unused ports safely closed. Multiple ports are not a reason to ignore pipe resistance or isolation access.
The body measures 950 Ă— 700 Ă— 1,005 mm. Leave space above it to access the screen and remove collected leaves without scattering them into the next stage. Plan the drainage and cleaning route before fitting fixed pipework around the housing.

Choosing and maintaining the pre-filter
Compare the Leaf Catcher B for the higher-flow version, and size the whole circuit around the limits of the drum and biological stages that follow. Adding a pre-filter introduces another part of the system to inspect, so accessibility is central to whether it will genuinely make maintenance easier.
During heavy leaf fall, check it more often and remove debris promptly. If flow falls, inspect the collection stage and branch pipework rather than compensating by pulling harder with the circulation pump.
