Oase BioSmart and BioTec Individual Replacement Filter Foams
Genuine coarse, fine and specialist foams sold individually
This model selector covers genuine Oase replacement foams for BioSmart 7000–16000, BioSmart 18000–36000, BioTec 5, 10 and 30, and BioTec 5.1/10.1 filters. Each listed part is one replacement foam, not a complete filter set. That distinction matters because larger filters contain several pieces and different grades.
Choose the exact filter family, colour and five-digit Oase part number. Colour is functional rather than decorative: different pore structures are placed in different stages of the water path. Do not substitute a red, blue or green foam merely because the outer dimensions appear similar.

Understanding the foam grades
Blue coarse foam provides an open structure for larger debris and oxygen-rich biological activity. Red fine foam retains smaller suspended material later in the filter path. The green grade used in the BioTec 5.1/10.1 and BioSmart 18000–36000 family has its own specified position and filtration characteristics. Preserve the original sequence shown in the filter manual.
Although the supplier schedule uses “foam set” in a few descriptions, the manufacturer scope and current specialist listings confirm these part numbers are individual foams. The product selector and table above deliberately state “one foam” to prevent under-ordering.
When an individual foam needs replacing
- The foam has split around its holder or cleaning handle.
- It remains flattened after rinsing and no longer regains its original depth.
- The pore structure has hardened or begun to crumble.
- Water bypasses a distorted edge instead of passing through the media.
- A previous incorrect foam grade needs restoring to the manufacturer’s layout.
Dark staining alone is not a fault. Established foams contain bacteria and trapped organic material, so they will not remain factory-clean. During routine maintenance, rinse them gently in removed pond water and avoid detergent, disinfectant or chlorinated tap water.
How many should you order?
Count the physical foams in your filter and identify their colours before ordering. Model-year changes and earlier BioTec names can create confusion, so the five-digit Oase number is the safest reference. If you are rebuilding an empty second-hand filter, send photographs of the filter data plate and internal holders; we can help check the required quantities.
Browse our complete filter-spares range for seals, lamps and other service parts, or compare additional pond-filter media. If water quality has already deteriorated, test ammonia and nitrite before feeding normally.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for a complete set?
No. Every option on this page supplies one genuine foam under the stated Oase part number.
Can I mix the BioSmart and BioTec options?
Only where the selected option explicitly lists both families. Use the exact model and part number rather than matching by colour alone.
Should every foam be renewed together?
Usually not. Replacing damaged pieces in stages retains more mature biofilm and reduces the risk of a sudden loss of biological capacity.
Why are there several colours?
The colours identify different grades or functions. Their pore structure and position help create staged mechanical and biological filtration.
Will new foam immediately improve ammonia readings?
No. New foam has no mature biofilm. Restore flow, protect remaining mature media, test the water and allow bacteria time to colonise.
