The Oase BioSmart UVC 16000 is a flow through pond filter designed to provide mechanical and biological filtration for garden ponds up to 16,000 litres. Featuring an integrated UVC clarifier, the system helps control green water algae while supporting beneficial bacteria that maintain healthy pond water.
Unlike the BioSmart Set kits, the BioSmart UVC 16000 is supplied as the filter unit only, allowing it to be paired with a suitable pond pump depending on the size and requirements of the pond.
How the BioSmart UVC 16000 Works
Water from the pond is pumped through the integrated UVC clarifier before entering the filter chamber. The ultraviolet light helps eliminate suspended algae and harmful microorganisms that cause green water, improving overall water clarity.
The water then flows through six filter foams inside the filter box. These foams remove suspended debris while also providing a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise. These bacteria break down waste products such as ammonia and nitrite produced by fish waste and decaying organic material.
The BioSmart filter includes several maintenance features designed to simplify cleaning. External cleaning handles allow the filter foams to be compressed and rinsed without removing them from the filter box, while a built in pollutant level indicator shows when maintenance is required.
An integrated sludge drain at the bottom of the filter allows debris and dirty water to be discharged easily. The filter lid also includes a temperature display which allows pond owners to monitor water temperature at a glance.
The filter housing can also be partially buried in the ground, helping it blend more naturally into the surrounding landscape.
Pond Size Recommendations
The filtration capacity of the BioSmart UVC 16000 varies depending on fish stocking levels.
Natural ponds without fish can be filtered effectively up to approximately 16,000 litres.
Lightly stocked ponds or goldfish ponds are typically suitable up to around 8,000 litres.
Koi ponds require significantly more filtration and are recommended up to approximately 4,000 litres.
Selecting a suitable pump and matching the filtration system correctly to pond size helps ensure clear and healthy water.

UV sizing and maintenance notes
Oase BioSmart 16000 Pond Filter should be matched to the pond volume, flow rate and water clarity problem you are trying to solve. UV clarification works best when water passes the lamp at a suitable speed and the quartz sleeve is kept clean. If the flow is too fast, contact time can be reduced. If the lamp is old or the quartz sleeve is dirty, performance can drop even when the unit still appears to be switched on.

- Clean or inspect the quartz sleeve when water clarity starts to deteriorate.
