Male BSP Threaded Hosetails for Pond Hose
These straight hosetail adaptors connect a matching female BSP threaded port to flexible pond hose. Choose the thread and hose combination together: the first measurement identifies the male thread, while the second identifies the nominal hose bore. Each selected option is one adaptor, supplied without hose, clips or a pump.
This is a practical connection for a compatible pump outlet, filter fitting or threaded pipe adaptor. It lets you move from a screwed connection to a hose run without treating the hose as rigid solvent-weld pipe. Compatibility depends on the actual port and hose, so use the size table and the equipment instructions rather than selecting a fitting from its appearance alone.

The inch sizes are nominal connection designations. For the hose side, the common pond-hose equivalents are 1 inch/25mm, 1¼ inch/32mm, 1½ inch/38mm and 2 inch/50mm. Check the marked internal diameter of your flexible hose. A hose’s outside diameter includes its wall thickness and is not the size used to select the hosetail.
Understanding the BSP thread size
BSP means British Standard Pipe thread. Its nominal inch label is not the measured outside diameter of the thread. For example, measuring a threaded port with a ruler and ordering that number as the BSP size can produce the wrong fitting. Use the equipment’s stated connection specification, or compare it with a positively identified existing connector.
The male thread on these fittings is intended for a matching female threaded connection. A hose barb is a different connection, and a plain socket for solvent welding is different again. Do not force a fitting into a port that does not start freely by hand. Similar-looking threads from a different standard are not a reason to assume compatibility.
Choosing the hose bore
Where your equipment supports several hose sizes, consider the complete water route before choosing. Longer runs, bends and narrow fittings all contribute to resistance. An adaptor can change the connection size, but it cannot remove restrictions inside the pump, filter or other equipment. Keep to the permitted hose and flow arrangements for the equipment being connected.
A larger hose after a small port may still be useful for the rest of the run, but it does not make the small port larger. Equally, reducing a large outlet to a narrow hose can restrict a system that was intended to operate with a larger bore. Choose a combination that fits both components and supports your planned flow rather than treating every size as interchangeable.
Fitting and supporting the connection
Switch off the relevant equipment and isolate or drain the section before disconnecting it. Check that the receiving thread is clean and undamaged. Follow the pump or filter maker’s instructions for the required sealing method; threaded joints do not all seal in the same way. Do not assume that a washer, thread tape or sealant is included with this adaptor.
Slide a suitable clip onto the hose before fitting the hose onto the tail. Seat the hose fully and place the clip where it can secure the hose correctly on the fitting. Tighten sufficiently for a secure connection without crushing or damaging the components. Support the hose so that its weight and any sharp bend do not pull sideways on the threaded equipment port.
For a suitable retaining clip, see our hose clips or stainless steel hose clips. Clip selection uses the outside diameter of the hose after it is fitted over the tail, so it is a separate measurement from the hose bore used to select this adaptor.
Checking for leaks and future access
Restore the water supply and power in the order specified for your equipment. Observe the connection under normal operation and check both the threaded joint and the hose end. A leak at one does not necessarily mean the other is loose. If the joint needs attention, isolate the system again before adjusting it rather than repeatedly tightening a wet, pressurised assembly.
Leave enough space to inspect and remove the connector during maintenance. A threaded adaptor can be useful at a service point, but a rigidly trapped hose may still make disassembly awkward. Plan the hose route so the fitting remains accessible and does not need to carry the weight of other equipment.
Related connections and alternatives
If you need a 1½ inch male BSP connection to 1½ inch hose, we already offer the separate PVC threaded 1½ inch hosetail. For a stepped fitting, compare the 1½ inch BSP stepped hosetail. Match the fitting type as well as its nominal size; a stepped tail and a single-size tail are different products.
These adaptors are sold by connection size. They are not supplied with a universal pressure, temperature or chemical-resistance guarantee for every installation. For uses beyond ordinary compatible pond hose connections, confirm the requirements of the equipment and the particular fitting before selecting it.
Additional thread and hose combinations
| Complete connection | Supplied quantity |
|---|---|
| 3/4 inch BSP male to 5/8 inch hose | One adaptor |
Read the thread, male or female connection and hose bore together. These are additional choices in this same connection family; the complete selected combination determines the fitting to order. Hose, clips and separate flow-control equipment are not included.
