Threaded Black Stepped Hose Tail 1.5″bsp
Flexible hose and hose fittings for pumps, filters, UVs and pond water features
Threaded Black Stepped Hose Tail 1.5″bsp is a practical pond hose fitting for pond building, filtration and maintenance work. Flexible hose and hose fittings are useful where rigid pipework would be awkward or where equipment needs a removable, serviceable connection. They are commonly used between pumps, pressure filters, UV clarifiers, waterfalls and temporary pond equipment, provided the correct hose size and fitting type are selected.
This fitting screws into a compatible 1.5 inch female BSP threaded socket and then accepts several flexible hose sizes on the stepped tail. It is useful where the equipment has a threaded outlet but the pipe run continues in flexible pond hose.
The important point with pond pipework is compatibility. A fitting may look simple, but the size, pipe type, pressure rating, thread, bend angle and future access all affect how well the finished system works. Choosing the correct part at this stage helps prevent leaks, reduces unnecessary restriction and makes the pond easier to service later.
This product is listed under the SKS range where applicable, but it should still be selected by connection size and application. On mixed installations, always check whether you are working with imperial pressure pipe, metric waste pipe, flexible hose, threaded fittings or rubber connectors before ordering.
Thread and hose size guide
The Threaded Black Stepped Hose Tail has a 1.5 inch BSP threaded end and a stepped tail for several common flexible pond hose sizes. This makes it useful for pumps, filters, UV connections, waterfall feeds and other low pressure pond plumbing where a threaded fitting is required.
| Connection point | Size / compatibility | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Threaded end | 1.5 inch BSP | Fits a compatible 1.5 inch female BSP thread |
| Small hose step | 20mm / 3/4 inch flexible hose | For smaller pond hose runs |
| Medium hose step | 25mm / 1 inch flexible hose | Common pump and filter hose size |
| Larger hose step | 32mm / 1.25 inch flexible hose | Useful where more flow is needed |
| Largest hose step | 38mm / 1.5 inch flexible hose | Best for larger low pressure hose runs |
Fit the hose to the correct step and secure it with a hose clip. If the hose tail is trimmed, cut cleanly and leave enough surface area for the hose clip to grip properly.
Where this part is normally used
- flexible pond hose runs
- pump to filter connections
- UV and pressure filter connections
- water features and waterfalls
- temporary or serviceable pond plumbing
This page is written for real pond use rather than general plumbing only. Pond systems often combine gravity lines, pump-fed lines, waste outlets and service connections in one area, so it is worth planning the layout before gluing, tightening or burying anything permanently.
Choosing the correct size and connection type
Before ordering, check the outside diameter or internal hose size of the pipework you are connecting to. A 2 inch flexible hose connection is not the same thing as a 2 inch imperial pressure pipe fitting, and 110mm waste pipe is different again. If the part uses a BSP thread, check whether the connection is male or female and whether a washer, seal or thread tape is required.
On pump-fed systems, undersized pipework can reduce real flow and increase pressure on the pump. On gravity-fed systems, pipe size and smooth runs are even more important because the system relies on water level difference rather than pump pressure. Larger koi ponds, drum filters and bottom drain lines should be planned with generous pipework wherever possible.
Installation advice
Match the hose size to the equipment outlet and avoid reducing the hose too sharply. Long hose runs, tight bends and undersized fittings can all reduce real flow. Where hose is connected to a barbed fitting, push the hose fully home and secure it properly so the joint cannot work loose under flow or vibration.
Keep future maintenance in mind. A clean installation is not just about hiding pipework; it should also allow valves to be turned, unions to be undone, strainers to be cleaned and equipment to be removed without cutting the system apart. Where a part may need regular access, avoid burying it or boxing it in permanently.
Key benefits

For small fittings, it is worth checking the whole pipe run before ordering so you do not end up missing the joiner, reducer, valve or connector that makes the system serviceable. This is especially important on filter bays where access can become tight once the equipment is installed.
Advice from That Pond Guy
When we specify pond plumbing, we look at the full system rather than a single fitting on its own. Flow rate, pipe diameter, bends, valves, access space and maintenance all matter. If a pond is difficult to isolate or service, even good equipment can become frustrating to maintain. Taking a little longer to choose the correct fitting usually saves time later.
If you are unsure whether this is the correct part, compare it with the related pipework above and check the size of your existing pipe, hose or threaded connection. For new koi pond builds, filter upgrades and more complex plumbing, it is usually worth planning the complete pipe route before placing the order.
Useful hose clips and fittings
Stepped hose tails should be cut to the correct size and clamped where needed. Choose a suitable clip from our Stainless Steel Hose Clips 10mm to 120mm range after checking the outside diameter of the fitted hose.
