Loosestrife ‘Robert’ | Lythrum salicaria ‘Robert’
Compact rose pink flowering pond plant for margins and pollinator friendly gardens
Loosestrife ‘Robert’, botanically known as Lythrum salicaria ‘Robert’, is a vibrant and compact marginal pond plant that delivers a stunning display of rich rose pink flower spikes throughout the summer months. Flowering from June through to September, this variety is perfect for adding bold colour, height, and structure to pond edges, bog gardens, and damp borders.
Unlike the taller wild forms of loosestrife, ‘Robert’ offers a more controlled, clump forming habit, making it ideal for smaller ponds and more refined planting schemes. Its upright stems are packed with vivid pink blooms that stand proudly above lance shaped green foliage, creating a striking contrast that draws the eye and enhances any water feature.
This plant is not just about appearance. It is a magnet for pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies, and hoverflies throughout its long flowering period. This makes it an excellent choice for wildlife friendly ponds where biodiversity is a priority. The dense growth also provides shelter for amphibians such as frogs and newts, helping to create a balanced and thriving pond ecosystem.
Loosestrife ‘Robert’ thrives in moist to wet soil conditions and can be planted in shallow water up to around 5 cm deep. It performs best in full sun where it will produce the most abundant flowering, but it will tolerate partial shade if needed.
Extremely hardy and reliable in UK conditions, this plant will return year after year with very little maintenance. Its compact size, long flowering period, and wildlife benefits make it a fantastic all round choice for pond owners looking to combine colour with ecological value.
Whether you are planting a natural wildlife pond or a more decorative water feature, Loosestrife ‘Robert’ provides dependable performance and eye catching summer colour.
