What makes this the upgraded assembly?

The main water outlet uses a double-union ball valve. The broad blue handle gives you a clear operating point, while the unions form part of the serviceable valve construction. Evolution Aqua also explains that the handle can be used to adjust the valve seal tightness. Follow the manufacturer’s procedure for this adjustment: a stiff handle is a reason to inspect the valve, rather than apply increasing force to the fitting.

Compatibility with the Tempest does not establish compatibility with a Nexus, EazyPod, Surge or another manufacturer’s filter. How the waste assembly supports cleaning

During a Tempest cleaning cycle, dirty water leaves the vessel through the waste outlet. Evolution Aqua explains that air enters as the vessel empties, agitating the water and helping clean the K+Media. This is why the drainage path and air-inlet arrangement both matter: they work together as part of the filter’s cleaning process.

The replacement assembly restores the intended waste-control arrangement when that component needs replacing. It does not change the amount of media in your filter or increase its rated water flow. Follow the cleaning sequence in the manual supplied with your particular Tempest, including the positions of the filter inlet and outlet valves. Do not confuse those valves with the controls on the waste assembly.

Preparing to replace the fitting

Before removing a drainage component, stop the pump supplying the filter, isolate the filter using its inlet and outlet controls and drain it safely in accordance with the Tempest instructions. A clean, correctly positioned seal is therefore an essential part of the fitting check. Choosing the right spare for the problem

If the body or operating parts of the waste assembly are damaged, a complete assembly gives you a defined replacement component to compare with the existing one. If the symptom is simply water around the upper connection, first establish where that water originates. A sealing problem, a damaged body and a leaking nearby hose connection are different faults; identifying the source helps avoid ordering a part that does not address the issue.

Similarly, slow draining should prompt an inspection of the waste route as well as the valve. Replacing a valve will not remove a restriction elsewhere in the drainage hose. Keep the outlet accessible for routine checks and avoid arranging stored equipment where it prevents you from operating the handles or inspecting the joint.
