The Evolution Aqua Nexus 320+ Automatic Cleaning Kit – Gravity automates the full cleaning cycle of compatible gravity fed Nexus 320 filtration systems. Instead of manually operating slide valves, adjusting air supply and opening waste outlets, the system controls each stage through a programmable control unit.

This kit can be installed on Nexus 320 filters manufactured from 2006 onwards. The newer Nexus 320+ and Nexus 320+ Ti models are supplied auto ready as standard, meaning they already include the required fittings for straightforward installation of the automatic cleaning kit.

Once installed, you can programme the cleaning cycle to operate at fixed intervals. Alternatively, you can activate a cycle manually when required. Therefore, the system provides both convenience and flexibility while maintaining consistent mechanical performance.

How the Gravity Automatic Cleaning Cycle Works

The kit manages a structured cleaning sequence that flushes the Eazy chamber efficiently and safely.

Firstly, the timer activates the cleaning cycle. The control box immediately switches off the circulation pump, allowing water levels inside the filter to stabilise.

Next, the automatic inlet slide plate closes. At the same time, the system redirects air from the biological chamber into the Eazy chamber. This increased air agitation lifts and separates trapped solids from the K1 Micro media. As a result, debris releases quickly and evenly.

The automatic waste valve then opens and discharges contaminated water to waste. After the purge stage completes, the inlet slide plate reopens to allow a final rinse. Subsequently, the waste valve closes and the system redirects air back to the biological chamber.

Finally, the circulation pump restarts and the Nexus 320+ returns to normal filtration mode. Because the kit controls every stage automatically, it delivers consistent cleaning performance and reduces the risk of operator error.

Compatibility and Installation

This gravity version is suitable for Nexus 320 filters manufactured from 2006 onwards. However, it is not compatible with pump fed installations.

The Nexus 320+ models are supplied auto ready for direct installation of this kit. Earlier Nexus 320 models require the appropriate fittings to be installed during upgrade which come included.

This gravity version is not suitable for pump fed Nexus systems. A separate automatic kit is available for pump fed configurations.

The cleaning interval is factory set to every 3 days. Nevertheless, you can adjust the frequency to match stocking density, feeding rates and seasonal waste production. During periods of heavy feeding, more frequent cleaning cycles may improve mechanical efficiency.

Matching the aeration system

Aeration works best when the pump, airline and diffuser layout are matched together. Long airline runs, narrow pipe, deep water and too many diffusers can all reduce the airflow that actually reaches the pond. It is better to spread air sensibly across the system than to force everything through one unsuitable point.

Use sinking airline where pipework will run through the pond, keep the air pump dry and ventilated, and allow access for filter cleaning or diaphragm servicing. On koi ponds and larger water bodies, a balanced diffuser layout can improve oxygen distribution and circulation without creating unnecessary turbulence in one area.

Aeration setup notes

Evolution Aqua Nexus 320+ Automatic Cleaning Kit – Gravity Fed should be chosen as part of the complete air system, not just by litres per minute. Airline length, airline bore, diffuser depth, manifold taps and back pressure all affect the real airflow that reaches the pond or filter. A well matched aeration system runs more quietly, puts less strain on the pump and gives more dependable oxygen support.

• Use suitable airline size for the pump output and distance involved.
• Keep the air pump dry, ventilated and protected from flooding.
• Spread airflow across multiple diffusers on larger ponds where possible.
• Check diaphragms, filters and diffusers during routine servicing.

For koi ponds, moving bed filters and warm weather aeration, consistent airflow is often more useful than simply oversizing the pump. Balanced diffuser placement gives better circulation and helps avoid stagnant areas.
