Yamitsu Hi-Flow 50 Replacement Diaphragms – Pair
This pair of replacement diaphragms is for the Kockney Koi Yamitsu Hi-Flow 50 air pump. It is a service part for an existing pump, allowing worn diaphragms to be renewed when the rest of the unit remains serviceable. The pack contains two diaphragms. It is not a complete air pump or a full inlet and exhaust housing kit.
Check the model label before ordering: Hi-Flow 50 is the important identification. Hiblow, Hi-Flow and Koi Pro Air Blow are different product ranges, even though their names sound similar. A pump with a nominal output of 50 litres per minute does not automatically use these diaphragms. If you have a different brand or model, choose its specified replacement parts.
What a diaphragm does
The flexible diaphragm moves within the pump’s air chamber. Its repeated movement changes the chamber volume, while the associated valves control the direction in which air travels. That creates the air supply sent through your manifold, airline and diffusers. The diaphragm is a moving component, so wear can eventually affect performance even when the pump’s outer casing appears unchanged.
Replacing worn diaphragms can be an appropriate maintenance task, but a loss of bubbles is not by itself a diagnosis. The air has to travel through the complete system, and a restriction or disconnected line elsewhere can produce a similar symptom. Check the external arrangement before opening the pump or ordering additional parts.
Checks before replacing parts
Work along the airline route with the pump isolated where necessary. Look for trapped or sharply bent tubing, loose connections and air stones that have become dirty. Check that each non-return valve faces the correct direction. Also consider any recent changes: a deeper diffuser, longer airline or altered manifold setting can change the amount of air visible at an outlet without a diaphragm having failed.
When several outlets are connected, compare their behaviour. If only one air stone has become weak, investigate that branch as well as the pump. If all outlets have changed together, the shared supply deserves attention. These observations help you describe the fault accurately; they do not replace inspection of the pump by someone competent to service it.
Service intervals and safe maintenance
Kockney Koi’s Hi-Flow instructions recommend replacing diaphragms every twelve months to maintain performance. The same instructions identify the inlet and outlet foams, seals and valves as parts to check when airflow falls. A diaphragm pair therefore covers one part of the maintenance job rather than every possible cause of poor operation.
Unplug the pump before servicing and follow the instructions for the exact model. The manufacturer specifies that maintenance should be carried out by a technically competent person. Keep the work area dry and clean, retain the assembly order and inspect the surrounding components while access is available. Do not run the pump with its housing open, and do not attempt to solve damaged wiring or water ingress by fitting diaphragms alone.
Because this pack provides a pair, both replacement diaphragms are available for the same service. Confirm that the removed parts and their mounting arrangement agree with the replacements before proceeding. If the inlet or exhaust housing is also damaged, this diaphragm-only pack does not supply a new housing; identify the additional part separately.
Reconnecting the air system
After correct reassembly, check the pump’s position and connections before returning it to normal use. The Hi-Flow should remain dry, sheltered and supported on a stable surface. Keep the air route clear and leave sufficient room around the pump for its intended ventilation. Reconnect the manifold securely, then check the individual air lines and outlet settings.
Our air pump manifolds with 4mm outlets offer different outlet counts where a manifold needs replacing. Match the inlet connection as well as the number of taps. For submerged airline runs, compare standard sinking airline with Evolution Aqua heavy duty sinking airline, selecting a bore that suits the actual manifold and diffuser connections.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include the valve chambers?
No. This listing is for two replacement diaphragms. A service kit containing inlet and outlet housings is a different package, so compare the contents as well as the pump model when ordering.
Will these fit a Hiblow pump?
Do not use the similar name as a compatibility guide. For Hiblow HP20 or HP40 models, see the separate Hiblow HP replacement diaphragm kits. Those are alternatives for their named pumps, not substitutes for this Hi-Flow 50 pair.
Will fitting new diaphragms increase the pump’s rating?
No. Replacement service parts do not turn the Hi-Flow 50 into a larger air pump. The aim is to address worn components within the original design. Diffuser depth, hose resistance and the condition of the rest of the air system still affect the air delivered to the pond.
