Pontec PondoCompact Water Feature Pumps
Small circulation pumps for ornaments, spouts, indoor features and compact cascades
Pontec PondoCompact pumps are built for water features that need a simple continuous clean-water supply rather than the debris handling of a pond filter pump. The range starts at a gentle 300 l/h for a small ornament and reaches 5,000 l/h for more substantial water walls, cascades and circulation duties.
All models have adjustable output. The 300-1200 sizes are primarily compact submerged pumps; the 2000, 3000 and 5000 may also be used dry in a correctly designed flooded-suction installation. They are not self-priming and must never be asked to lift water up a dry inlet pipe.

Choosing the right size
Small changes in head make a large difference at this scale. Measure from the feature’s water surface to its outlet and confirm the intended flow for the spout, blade or ornament. A pump that looks adequate at zero head can become disappointing after a metre of lift through narrow tube.
Start by deciding what the display or circulation point must achieve. A small bubbling ornament needs much less water than a raised blade, a broad cascade or a tall fountain jet. Measure the vertical difference from the water surface to the highest outlet, then allow for friction. Narrow hose, long runs, sharp elbows, restrictive valves and undersized fittings all reduce the delivered flow.
If the result is critical, use the manufacturer’s performance curve rather than choosing only from the product name. It is usually better to keep the pipe bore generous and control a small amount of surplus flow than to make a marginal pump work at the edge of its capability. Do not use a valve on the inlet side and never allow the pump to run without water.
Installation details that make a real difference
- Keep the intake clear of gravel, planting fibres and decorative stones.
- Use the largest practical hose bore and avoid immediate reductions.
- Dry-mounted 2000-5000 models must remain below water level with a flooded inlet.
- Provide isolation and unions if the pump is installed inside a difficult-to-access reservoir.
Keep the pump accessible. Even a reliable water-feature pump needs its intake inspected and cleaned, particularly in shallow features where leaves, blanketweed and mineral deposits collect quickly. Isolate the electricity before touching the pump, cable or nozzle assembly, and use an outdoor supply with appropriate RCD protection.
How this range compares
PondoCompact is the value-focused clean-water range. Choose PondoVario when a fountain riser and nozzles are needed, or Oase Aquarius Universal for premium feature applications and more detailed installation options.
Browse our wider water-feature and fountain pumps range for alternative outputs, controllable models and compatible installation parts. If you send us the desired effect, lift, hose length and bore, we can help check the duty point before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Does maximum flow mean the amount I will receive?
No. It is a laboratory figure at minimal head. The installed flow falls as lift and pipe resistance increase.
Can I reduce the flow?
A valve may be fitted on the outlet where the instructions permit it. Never throttle the inlet. If regular adjustment is important, compare a purpose-designed controllable pump.
Can the pump stay outdoors in winter?
Follow the model instructions and prevent freezing. A pump left in service must remain sufficiently deep and ice-free; a removed pump should be cleaned and stored as the manufacturer directs.
