Pontec Fish Water Spout

A decorative fish ornament for a pump-fed pond water feature

The Pontec Fish Water Spout adds a small stream of moving water to a garden pond or water-feature basin. Position the fish beside the water, connect it to a suitable pump through its 13mm hose connection and direct the stream back into the pond. It provides a compact alternative to a larger waterfall where you want movement and the sound of water close to a seating area or planted pond edge.

This is the fish ornament, supplied without a pump. The feature needs a suitable water supply, connecting hose and a stable position to operate. If you are building a new feature, our Pontec PondoCompact water-feature pumps offer a range of clean-water pump sizes to consider alongside the installation’s height and hose run.

The dimensions describe the ornament itself. Allow additional room for the hose connection and for a smooth hose bend behind or beneath the feature. Its compact size makes it easier to incorporate around smaller ponds, but the final position should leave the water stream comfortably inside the pond rather than close to an exposed outer edge.

Choosing a pump for the water spout

Choose the pump according to the height from the water surface to the spout and the resistance of the hose route. A pump’s headline litres-per-hour figure is normally measured with little or no lift, so it does not tell you exactly how much water will reach an ornament installed above the pond. A long or narrow hose run also reduces the flow delivered at the outlet.

An adjustable clean-water feature pump lets you tune the stream after installation. Start gently and increase the setting until the water returns neatly to the pond. More flow is not always better: an overpowered stream can splash beyond the liner, disturb nearby planting or create more noise than you intended. Check the pump’s performance information for the planned installation rather than choosing solely by its maximum flow.

If you intend to share a pump with another feature, check that the pump has a suitable additional outlet or that the proposed distributor is compatible. Both outlets share the available water supply. Adjusting one feature may affect the other, particularly when the two hose runs have different lengths or rise to different heights.

Planning a neat installation

Place the fish on a firm, level support where it cannot slide towards the water or be knocked over during routine maintenance. Dry-position it before connecting the pump so that you can judge the appearance from the places where you normally enjoy the pond. Leave access to the hose joint and enough room to remove the ornament for cleaning.

Use hose with the correct internal diameter for the 13mm connection and secure the joint appropriately. Route the hose without sharp kinks, and avoid placing heavy stones directly on it. Conceal the run with planting or suitable landscaping while keeping the connection accessible. Do not cut or stretch the pond liner to accommodate the ornament.

The return stream must land inside the watertight area of the feature. On a windy day, check where splashes travel and reduce the flow or reposition the ornament if necessary. A small but continuous splash outside the pond can gradually lower the water level, so include this check when testing a newly installed spout.

Using it with a pond or separate basin

The fish can form part of a planted garden pond or a separate recirculating water feature with a suitable reservoir. In either arrangement, the pump must have enough water around its intake and be installed in accordance with its own instructions. Maintain access for topping up and cleaning the reservoir, particularly where planting or decorative stones hide the water level.

The moving stream adds surface movement, but it should not be used as a measured substitute for the aeration required by a stocked koi pond. Continue to size filtration and air supply for the fish, feeding level and pond conditions. This ornament’s main role is to create a decorative water effect.

Cleaning and seasonal care

Switch off and isolate the pump before disconnecting the hose or removing the ornament. Check the pump intake and spout for accumulated debris if the stream becomes weak or uneven. Clean accessible surfaces gently, using methods suitable for the ornament and avoiding residues that could enter the pond. Clear the hose separately if sediment has collected inside it.

When taking the feature out of use for freezing weather, drain trapped water from the ornament and hose and follow the pump manufacturer’s storage instructions. Before restarting in spring, inspect the connection, confirm that the pump is submerged or otherwise installed correctly for its model, and test the stream at a low setting. Browse our pond pumps if you need a separate pump for this feature.
