Pontec pumps for pond fountains and decorative water features

The Pontec PondoVario range is designed around pond fountain displays, PondoCompact pumps suit smaller contained features and statues, and PondoSolar sets provide a mains-free display where the panel receives strong direct sunlight.

These products may look similar on a category grid, but their duties are different. Start with the type of feature, required lift and desired nozzle effect, then confirm the pump dimensions, cable or solar-panel reach and service access.

PondoVario, PondoCompact or PondoSolar?

PondoVario is the conventional choice for a submerged pond fountain with interchangeable display options. PondoCompact is for a smaller closed reservoir, water bowl or ornament where physical size and quiet operation matter. PondoSolar avoids a mains cable but its output follows available sunlight.

Calculate the real operating point

Measure the vertical lift from the operating water level to the outlet and allow for narrow hose, fittings and nozzle resistance. Maximum flow is not the flow delivered at maximum head, and the highest possible fountain is not normally the most stable or attractive everyday setting.

Keep contained features topped up, clean the intake and never let the pump run dry. Position solar panels away from shade cast by fences, buildings and planting through the middle of the day.

Frequently asked questions

Which range is best for a small statue?

PondoCompact is normally the relevant family, subject to the required lift and connection.

Which range is best for a pond fountain?

PondoVario is designed for submerged fountain displays in ponds.

Does PondoSolar run in shade?

Output falls or stops when the panel does not receive sufficient direct light.

Can the pump feed a filter?

Use a dedicated filter pump unless the exact product documentation confirms that duty.

Why is my fountain shorter than expected?

Lift, nozzle resistance, dirt, low water level and reduced solar input can all lower performance.

Can I run a pump dry?

No unless the exact model explicitly supports dry installation. Small feature pumps normally require water.

How do I prevent splashing?

Reduce flow or fountain height, centre the nozzle and choose a pattern suited to the available water area.

Should I remove the pump for winter?

Follow the model instructions and protect small feature reservoirs and fittings from freeze damage.
