Replace a worn sponge in your Pond One ClariTec pressurised filter with the correct original spare. This range includes two green 20ppi sponges and a black 15ppi sponge, supplied individually. Although the green options share the same foam grade, they have different part numbers and are not interchangeable simply because they are the same colour. Choose the reference that matches the sponge position and model in your filter’s instructions.

The selection above is for one replacement sponge, not a complete set of filter media. If you are rebuilding the whole foam stack, identify each required part and quantity before ordering. ClariTec models use several sponges, and buying a single piece will not provide every foam layer in the canister.

209S green sponge: 20ppi

The 209S is the green 20ppi replacement listed by Pond One for ClariTec 5000, 10000 and 15000 filters, including their UV versions. Its full manufacturer code is 25209S. Pond One’s spare-parts guide specifically excludes the ClariTec 3000 and 3000UV from this reference, so it should not be selected for those smaller models.

Match 209S against the original sponge reference or the replacement-media diagram. The model name alone is not enough to identify every piece in a multi-layer filter. A ClariTec 5000 can use more than one green sponge reference, which is why checking the part number is more reliable than choosing by colour.

210S green sponge: 20ppi

The 210S is also green 20ppi foam, but Pond One lists it for ClariTec 3000, 5000, 10000 and 15000 models, including UV versions. Its full manufacturer code is 25210S. This is the green option in this listing that includes the ClariTec 3000 and 3000UV in its compatibility range.

For owners of the larger models, both 209S and 210S may appear in the filter’s spare-parts information. They remain separate replacement parts. Follow the diagram for your filter and replace the required piece with its matching reference; do not assume that the shared 20ppi specification means either will fit the same position.

211S black sponge: 15ppi

The black 211S sponge has a 15ppi grade and manufacturer code 25211S. Pond One lists this part for ClariTec 5000, 10000 and 15000 filters and their UV versions. As with 209S, the manufacturer excludes the ClariTec 3000 and 3000UV from the 211S reference.

Pond One also identifies a different black sponge, 212S, in its manuals. That is a separate part and is not the black option offered here. Check the number carefully when replacing black foam, particularly if you have a ClariTec 3000. Ordering the correct reference avoids relying on photographs of similar-looking filter media.

What 15ppi and 20ppi mean

PPI describes pores per inch: it identifies the foam’s pore grade rather than its outside dimensions or the number of sponges supplied. A 15ppi foam is more open than a 20ppi foam. Using the specified grade helps maintain the intended arrangement of mechanical filtration in the canister instead of replacing every layer with the same material.

Check the filter before replacing its foam

A dirty sponge does not automatically need replacing. First distinguish trapped debris from physical deterioration. Foam that cleans adequately and retains its shape may remain usable; a torn, crumbling or permanently distorted piece needs closer attention. Check the rest of the media stack at the same time so an unnoticed gap or damaged layer is not left behind.

If circulation has reduced, inspect the pump intake and accessible hose runs as well as the foam. Replacing one sponge will not clear a blocked hose or pump strainer. Keep the filter’s maintenance instructions available and identify the model on the equipment label before opening the canister.

Fitting and ongoing care

Switch off and isolate the pump and any UV equipment before servicing, then follow the ClariTec instructions for safely opening the pressurised filter. Photograph the original media arrangement before lifting pieces out. Keep track of each layer and refit the correct sponge in its original position, without forcing the lid against misplaced media.

For routine cleaning, rinse reusable media in pond water removed into a suitable container and avoid household detergents. Preserve healthy established media where possible rather than replacing every piece unnecessarily at once. After reassembly, check the lid seal and connections, restore the system according to its instructions and confirm that water is circulating without leaks. Continue monitoring water quality after substantial filter maintenance.
