Paul Hariot Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Paul Hariot’)
A stunning colour changing waterlily with apricot yellow blooms maturing to orange red, perfect for adding long lasting interest to medium sized ponds.
A unique colour changing waterlily with an extended flowering season.
Paul Hariot Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Paul Hariot’) is a truly eye catching and distinctive variety, loved for its unusual colour transformation and long flowering period. Unlike many traditional waterlilies, this variety opens in soft apricot yellow tones before gradually deepening into shades of pink and orange red as the blooms mature. This creates a constantly evolving display across the pond surface, making it one of the most visually dynamic choices available.
Flowering from early summer right through to late October, Paul Hariot offers a longer season of colour than many other varieties. Its cup shaped flowers sit elegantly on the water, with vibrant orange stamens at the centre adding further contrast and detail. As the season progresses, the variation in colour across different blooms gives the pond a rich and layered appearance.
The foliage is equally attractive, with rounded leaves that emerge in olive green tones flecked with purple. As the plant matures, the leaves deepen in colour, forming a dense canopy across the water’s surface. This coverage helps to reduce sunlight penetration, which in turn limits algae growth and supports better water clarity.
With a spread of around 70 cm to 90 cm, Paul Hariot is ideal for medium sized ponds. It provides enough coverage to be effective without overwhelming the space, making it a great choice for garden ponds where balance is key. It thrives in still water and performs best in full sun, where it will produce the highest number of blooms.
This variety is not only valued for its ornamental qualities but also for its environmental benefits. The floating leaves create shaded areas where fish and amphibians can shelter, while the flowers attract pollinators such as bees and insects. This makes it an excellent addition to wildlife friendly ponds.
Reliable, hardy and easy to grow, Paul Hariot Waterlily is a fantastic option for anyone looking to add colour, movement and seasonal interest to their pond. Its unique colour changing blooms and extended flowering period make it a standout choice among waterlilies.
