Aurora Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Aurora’)

A compact colour changing waterlily with blooms that shift from soft yellow to warm copper red, perfect for small ponds, patio containers and decorative water features.

Aurora Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Aurora’) is a truly unique and eye catching dwarf waterlily, prized for its remarkable colour changing flowers and compact growth habit. Ideal for smaller ponds and container water gardens, this variety delivers a constantly evolving display throughout the summer months.

What makes Aurora stand out is its distinctive flowers. Each bloom opens as a soft pale yellow and gradually deepens through shades of peach and orange before maturing into a rich copper red. This means a single plant can display multiple colours at once, creating a vibrant and dynamic look on the pond surface. The star shaped flowers sit just above the water and open in sunlight, offering a long flowering season from early summer through to autumn.

The foliage consists of rounded, mid green floating leaves that provide a natural backdrop to the colourful blooms. These leaves help create gentle surface coverage, reducing sunlight penetration and limiting algae growth. This contributes to a healthier pond environment while also keeping water temperatures more stable.

With a spread of around 70 cm to 90 cm, Aurora is well suited to small to medium sized ponds, patio containers and raised water features. It offers the beauty of a larger waterlily while still remaining manageable, making it a great option for those who want strong visual impact without excessive growth.

Aurora thrives in still water and performs best in full sun, where it will produce the most vibrant colours and the highest number of flowers. Its compact root system makes it easy to position and maintain, and it integrates well into mixed planting schemes with other aquatic plants.

Fully hardy in UK conditions, Aurora Waterlily will return year after year with minimal care. It also supports pond wildlife by providing shade, shelter and resting areas for insects and amphibians.

For pond owners looking for something a little different, Aurora offers a stunning mix of colour, movement and practicality in a compact and easy to grow plant.
