Fixing decorative stone liner

The decorative material has a pebble-covered face and a backing that facilitates bonding; the underlying pond liner remains the waterproof layer.

Plan the visible finish and the water-retaining layer separately. Do not assume that attaching a decorative facing will repair a damaged liner underneath. If water is escaping, locate and address the actual fault before covering the area.

Small repairs versus joining liner sheets

Remove loose material and contamination as directed, and arrange the pieces so that they can remain in their intended position while the adhesive cures.

A repair on an old liner may involve algae, sediment or remnants of a previous adhesive. Covering these with a fresh bead does not establish a reliable connection to the material underneath. If the liner is badly deteriorated or the joint design is uncertain, assess whether a properly prepared patch, replacement section or mechanical fitting is the more appropriate solution.

Underwater use and curing

Oase states that UniFix+ can bond underwater. That capability should be considered alongside the actual preparation and curing instructions on the supplied cartridge. It does not mean that the joint is immediately ready for loading, strong flow or unrestricted movement. Keep the work accessible for inspection and follow the stated conditions before returning it to normal service.

Do not choose a curing time from another brand of pond sealant, or confuse a surface that feels set with a fully cured joint. Temperature, the application and the product directions matter. For work around fish, use the adhesive only as intended and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for handling and returning the repaired area to use.

Planning the job and storing the cartridge

Work out the surfaces, joint length and access before opening the cartridge, and have the application equipment ready. Keep adhesive away from food and fish feed, close the container appropriately after use, and follow the storage instructions on the packaging. Check its date and condition before relying on a previously opened cartridge for a new repair.
