Correct service media for pre-2019 and current grey Filtral UVC filters

Oase Filtral all-in-one filters changed internal media design, so model name alone is not enough to select the correct replacement. This page separates the complete pre-2019 media kits from the newer Filtral UVC 1500, 3000 and 6000/9000 two-foam sets.

Parts 13705 and 35836 are earlier complete media kits. They contain coarse and fine foam plus the appropriate mineral and plastic biological media for their listed models. Parts 70240, 70241 and 70242 are the red/blue replacement foam pairs for the newer Filtral UVC 1500, 3000 and 6000/9000 respectively. These foam sets do not include the earlier loose biological components.

Choosing the correct kit: check the filter’s colour, shape, data label and part number before ordering. “Filtral 6000” appears in both generations, but the correct service kit differs. A photograph is far safer than guessing from the pond size.

What each option contains

Part 13705: one blue coarse foam, one black fine foam, one bag of mineral media and two plastic bio-media pieces for pre-2019 Filtral 2500/3000 and compatible PondoRell 3000.

Part 35836: one blue coarse foam, one black fine foam, two bags of mineral media and eight plastic bio-media pieces for pre-2019 Filtral 5000/6000/9000.

Part 70242: one blue and one red/orange graded foam for the 2019-on grey Filtral UVC 6000 and 9000.

Replacement foam sets for Filtral UVC 1500 and 3000

Part 70240 contains one red foam and one blue foam shaped for the Filtral UVC 1500. Part 70241 contains one red foam and one blue foam shaped for the Filtral UVC 3000. Although both packs contain two coloured pieces, their profiles differ. Choose the set for the filter’s exact model rather than assuming the foams can be exchanged between the two units.

These are replacement filter sponges, not complete pump or UVC assemblies. They do not include the lamp, quartz sleeve, ceramic bag or plastic bio-surface elements. If only the foams are damaged, retain the other serviceable components and fit the replacements in the same positions as the originals. If several components are missing from a second-hand filter, check them separately against the manufacturer’s parts diagram.

The current Filtral UVC 3000 foam set is particularly easy to confuse with the older 2500/3000 complete media kit. The shared “3000” name does not make the parts interchangeable. Use 70241 for the 2019-on design and 13705 for the earlier 2500/3000 family. Check the filter label and internal layout before opening a new pack, particularly if you do not know when the filter was first bought.

When do the foams need replacing?

Inspect the foams when servicing the unit. Material that is torn, breaking down or no longer holding its shape should be replaced with the correctly shaped set. A dirty but otherwise serviceable sponge may simply need careful cleaning. Avoid packing the housing with additional foam or forcing an incorrectly shaped piece into place, because the intended route through the filter needs to remain clear.

Reduced fountain output can also be caused by a blocked intake, impeller or fountain attachment. Check these accessible parts as instructed before assuming that replacement foams alone will solve every flow problem. After reassembly, position the unit correctly underwater and confirm that water is passing through normally. Continue checking the pond’s water quality while replacement media becomes biologically established.

Safe servicing

1. Disconnect the unit from the electricity supply before lifting or opening it.
2. Never operate or view the UVC lamp outside its enclosed housing.
3. Record the original media order and retain reusable cages, trays and covers.
4. Rinse established media in removed pond water; rinse new media in clean water without detergent.
5. Inspect the impeller, fountain outlets, quartz sleeve, lamp and seals during the same service.
6. Restart the unit fully submerged as instructed and confirm normal flow before leaving it unattended.

A complete media change temporarily removes much of the mature biofilm. Feed lightly and use suitable pond-water tests for ammonia and nitrite while the filter recolonises. Browse our filter-spares range for further model-specific service parts.

Frequently asked questions

Which kit fits a Filtral 6000?

It depends on generation. Use 35836 for the pre-2019 unit and 70242 for the current 2019-on grey Filtral UVC 6000.

Does 70242 include biological media?

No. It is the red/blue foam pair for current 6000/9000 units. The older complete kits include additional media.

Can I use 13705 in a Filtral 5000?

No. Part 13705 is the smaller pre-2019 2500/3000 kit; part 35836 covers the larger pre-2019 family.

Should I discard all old media?

Replace physically failed material, but preserve healthy mature media where the filter design permits. Avoid washing useful biofilm in chlorinated tap water.

How can I identify the generation?

Use the data plate, original product code, casing shape and colour. Send us clear photographs if there is any doubt.
