Oase AquaActiv BioKick Filter Starter 100ml
A straightforward dry starter culture for smaller pond filters
BioKick 100ml is the compact starter in the Oase AquaActiv range. It introduces immediately active microorganisms to the filter so that a new or recently cleaned biological stage can begin processing organic waste and nitrogen compounds more quickly.
Choose this pack for ponds up to 5,000 litres with a normal biological load. It is particularly useful when commissioning a new filter, bringing a system back after winter, or after a careful clean has removed part of the established biofilm.
What this treatment is designed to do
- Starts or replenishes the bacterial population on biological filter media.
- Supports the breakdown of ammonium/ammonia and nitrite while the filter matures.
- Useful after a new filter installation, seasonal restart or substantial filter cleaning.
- Works with the filter rather than masking poor water quality with a colourant or flocculant.
How to use it responsibly
Distribute the product into the biological filter where the water will carry it through the media. Avoid pouring it into a waste chamber that will immediately be flushed away. Follow the label regarding UVC operation and allow the bacteria time to colonise before making further major changes.
- Test ammonia and nitrite during the filter run-in period.
- Never use bacteria as a substitute for an adequately sized filter or oxygen supply.
- Rinse mature biological media in pond water rather than untreated chlorinated tap water.
Calculate the real water volume after allowing for shelves, stone, pipework and filter chambers. If fish are distressed, oxygen is low or the water values are unsafe, stabilise the system before carrying out non-essential cosmetic treatment. Always retain the batch label and follow the current pack instructions, because formulation and regulatory directions can change.

No bottled treatment replaces adequate filtration, oxygen, sensible feeding and routine removal of organic waste. Used for the correct problem, however, it can be a useful part of a measured maintenance plan rather than a guess-and-hope fix.
Frequently asked questions
Will BioKick instantly make a new pond safe for fish?
No. It helps the biological filter establish, but ammonia and nitrite must still be tested and stocking or feeding kept conservative while the system matures.
Can I add it after cleaning the filter?
Yes, especially after a substantial clean, medication or an interruption that may have reduced bacterial activity.
Does it clear green water?
No. Green water is a separate algae problem; diagnose nutrients, UVC performance and circulation rather than expecting a filter starter to act as an algaecide.
