Blagdon Clean Pond Pods
A measured 5-in-1 pond treatment for filter support, sludge, blanketweed and tap-water conditioning
Clean Pond Pods are soluble single-dose pouches developed for Blagdon’s Clean Pond Machine but suitable for other pond filters and direct pond use. Each pod treats 500 litres. Once the pouch dissolves, its gentle active ingredients support filter bacteria, consume organic sludge, condition incoming tap water, encourage aquatic plants and help reduce blanketweed or string algae over sustained use.
This is deliberately not marketed as an overnight chemical knock-down. Blagdon advises that visible blanketweed improvement can take around a month and that the best results come from a consistent seasonal programme. Begin when daily water temperatures are reliably above 10°C, use one pod per 500 litres, repeat after two weeks, then dose monthly or as the pond requires. Stop when temperatures fall below 10°C.

How to use Clean Pond Pods
- Calculate the pond’s actual water volume rather than guessing from its surface size.
- Use one unopened soluble pod for every 500 litres.
- Place it in the Clean Pond Machine chamber, another high-flow filter area, or directly in an area of good circulation.
- Do not tear the soluble pouch or handle it with wet hands.
- Continue normal filtration and aeration while the biological ingredients work.
The treatment is designed to be safe for fish, pond plants, wildlife and established filter bacteria when used as directed. If using other medicines or algaecides, check their instructions before combining products. Browse Clean Pond Machine filters, filter bacteria and pond test kits.
Frequently asked questions
How many Clean Pond Pods should I use?
Use one pod per 500 litres of pond water. Recalculate after major changes to the pond or filtration volume.
How quickly do they work?
They support gradual biological improvement rather than producing an instant chemical result. Blagdon says blanketweed reduction should become apparent within about a month.
Can they be used without a Clean Pond Machine?
Yes. Place them in a compatible high-flow filter position or directly in an area of good pond circulation.
Are they safe for wildlife ponds?
Blagdon states they are suitable for planted, wildlife, koi and other fish ponds when correctly dosed.
Do they replace dechlorinator?
They include a tap-water conditioning function, but for a large or urgent refill we prefer a dedicated correctly dosed dechlorinator.
Should I use them in winter?
Stop the seasonal programme when daily temperatures fall below 10°C because the relevant biological activity slows substantially.
