Mrs Richmond Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Mrs Richmond’)
Elegant pink blooms with subtle red tones, perfect for bringing colour, depth and natural balance to medium and large garden ponds.
The Mrs Richmond Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Mrs Richmond’) is a refined and eye catching variety, known for its beautifully shaped pink flowers with a gentle hint of red. Ideal for medium to large ponds, this waterlily offers a perfect balance of elegance, colour and practicality, making it a popular choice for both ornamental and wildlife friendly pond settings.
Flowering from June through to September, Mrs Richmond produces rounded, star shaped blooms that sit proudly on the water’s surface. The petals display a soft pink tone, often deepening slightly towards the centre, where a warm golden core adds contrast and brightness. This combination creates a natural yet striking focal point that enhances the overall appearance of your pond.
The dark green foliage provides a rich backdrop to the flowers while also playing an essential role in pond health. The broad lily pads spread across the surface, helping to shade the water and reduce algae growth. This natural shading effect not only keeps your pond looking clearer but also helps regulate water temperature during warmer weather.
With a spread of around 80 cm to 120 cm, this variety is well suited to larger planting areas. It offers generous coverage without becoming invasive, making it a great choice for balancing open water space with plant coverage. It also adapts well to a range of planting depths, giving you flexibility in positioning.
Beyond its visual appeal, Mrs Richmond supports a thriving pond ecosystem. The floating leaves provide shelter for fish and amphibians, while also offering resting spots for frogs and other wildlife. The flowers attract pollinators such as bees, helping to encourage biodiversity within your garden.
Hardy and easy to establish, this waterlily thrives in full sun and still water conditions. Once settled, it requires minimal maintenance and will reward you with reliable flowering year after year.
If you are looking for a classic pink waterlily with a touch of richness and depth, Mrs Richmond is an excellent addition to any pond.
