Mayla Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Mayla’)
A vibrant fuchsia pink waterlily with bold star shaped blooms, perfect for adding colour, shade and life to medium sized garden ponds.
Mayla Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Mayla’) is a striking and reliable variety, prized for its vivid magenta pink flowers and strong garden performance. This eye catching waterlily is an excellent choice for pond owners looking to introduce bold colour while also improving the health and balance of their pond.
Throughout the summer months, Mayla produces large, star shaped blooms in a rich fuchsia pink tone. These flowers sit beautifully on the water’s surface, creating a bright focal point that draws attention from every angle. The intensity of the colour makes it one of the more vibrant waterlilies available, offering a strong contrast against the surrounding greenery and water.
The foliage is equally important. Mayla develops broad, deep green floating leaves that spread steadily across the pond surface. These leaves provide essential shade, helping to reduce sunlight penetration into the water. This naturally limits algae growth and helps maintain clearer, healthier water conditions. The shaded areas also create safe zones for fish and amphibians, making the pond a more stable and wildlife friendly environment.
With a spread of around 60 cm to 90 cm, Mayla is well suited to medium sized ponds. It offers enough coverage to be effective without overwhelming the space, making it ideal for combining with other aquatic plants such as marginal plants and oxygenators.
Mayla thrives in full sun and still water conditions, where it will produce the most abundant flowering. Once established, it is easy to care for and will return year after year, providing consistent performance and colour.
As well as its ornamental value, this waterlily plays an important ecological role. The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and insects, while the floating leaves provide resting areas for frogs, newts and other pond life. This makes it a great addition to any wildlife pond or natural garden setting.
If you are looking for a colourful, dependable and easy to grow waterlily that enhances both appearance and water quality, Mayla is an excellent choice.
