Kintama Black Bio Ring Media — 1kg and 2.5kg
Kintama Black bio ring media is available here in supplier-listed 1kg and 2.5kg packs. It is intended for an appropriate biological filter arrangement, providing a choice of pack weight when adding or replacing media in a suitable chamber.
Kockney Koi describes Kintama Black as media with internal and external areas that can support biological colonisation. This listing concerns the specified weight packs. It does not convert those weights into litres or apply a claimed surface area per kilogram from a specification expressed per litre.
Pack and ordering details
| Selected pack | Supplied quantity |
|---|---|
| 1kg pack | One pack |
| 2.5kg pack | One pack |
The 1kg and 2.5kg choices are not labelled as the manufacturer’s separately offered 10 or 25 litre packs. Choose the stated weight for this retail unit and compare packs on the same basis. No unverified number of individual rings is assigned to either pack.
The selected pack contains the stated filter medium. A complete filter, pump, supporting grid, mesh bag and other media are separate. Work out the available chamber space and intended media arrangement before adding a quantity to your basket.
Use the media in an appropriate biological stage
Biological media provides a place for an established population of useful microorganisms within a correctly operating filter. The whole installation also needs the water route, oxygen supply and maintenance required by the filter design. Adding a pack of dry media is not an instant substitute for a working, established filtration system.
Check how your filter is intended to use loose media. A static chamber, a trickle arrangement and a moving-media system operate differently, so do not treat every medium as interchangeable. Select the location and supporting arrangement around the equipment’s instructions rather than around the appearance of the individual pieces.
Keep the water path open
Plan the media position so that water reaches the intended area instead of bypassing it. Leave the outlet, drain and inspection points accessible. A chamber filled to its lid is not automatically more effective if the arrangement prevents the route from working or makes cleaning impractical.
Measure the usable space around internal pipes and supports. The outside dimensions of a filter box can overstate the volume available for loose media. Check that the chosen retaining arrangement will hold the material in place without restricting the route or allowing pieces to move into connected equipment.
Prepare the chamber and medium
Safely isolate the relevant equipment before opening the filter. Follow its instructions for draining or servicing the affected chamber. Remove unwanted debris and inspect the existing supports so that the new material can be installed securely.
Follow the supplied media instructions for any preparation before use. Keep loose dust or fragments out of sensitive equipment and use an appropriate container while preparing the material. Work methodically so that the selected medium is placed in its intended stage, rather than mixed accidentally with a treatment or another unidentified product.
Choose retaining parts separately
Where the filter design calls for a bag, grid or tray, select one suited to the material and chamber. A retaining part should support the intended arrangement and remain accessible for maintenance. Check its dimensions and mesh or opening specification instead of assuming that every media bag will hold every loose medium.
Our Kockney Koi filter media bags are a separate option to compare where bags are appropriate. Their own dimensions and supplied quantity apply. A media bag does not change the role of the product or guarantee a particular pond capacity.
Allow the biological stage to establish
A biological stage needs to develop under the conditions of the operating pond. Keep the required circulation and aeration running, and monitor water quality when media is added or a filter is changed. Do not assume that clear water proves ammonia and nitrite are at acceptable levels.
Follow a suitable plan for stocking and feeding while a new or substantially changed filter establishes. A published media quantity is only one part of the system: fish load, feeding, temperature, flow and the rest of the filtration arrangement matter as well. No universal litres-of-pond capacity is assigned to these packs.
Maintain mechanical cleaning upstream
A separate mechanical stage can remove debris before it reaches biological media, where the filter design provides one. Keep that stage maintained so that accumulated waste does not undermine the intended route through later chambers. Compare the filter instructions before changing the order of its stages.
For compatible media stages, see our filter brushes and Japanese matting. They have their own installation roles and dimensions; the links are alternatives to assess within a complete design, rather than promises that all three media can be substituted directly for each other.
Cleaning and future changes
Inspect the installed material during normal maintenance and use the cleaning method appropriate to an established biological stage. Avoid unnecessarily replacing or stripping the whole stage at once. Remove collected waste into a suitable container rather than releasing it into the following chamber.
After servicing, restore the equipment as its manual describes, check the normal water levels and confirm that the media remains in position. Keep the pack details with your maintenance notes so that the next addition can be selected by the same product and retail unit.
