Cloverleaf SmartStart 48W and 72W Replacement Quartz Sleeve

This replacement quartz sleeve is the service component listed for compatible Cloverleaf SmartStart 48W and 72W clarifiers. It surrounds the UV lamps inside the treatment chamber and provides the barrier between flowing pond water and the electrical lamp assembly. The listing is for one sleeve, not a complete ultraviolet clarifier or a set of replacement bulbs.

Select this part by the exact clarifier model and the sleeve specified in its instructions. The 48W and 72W description identifies the compatible SmartStart unit sizes; it does not mean that the sleeve generates light or consumes electricity. Quartz is a passive component, while the separate lamps provide the UV-C output.

Compatibility comes before appearance

Older Cloverleaf SmartStart systems were offered with different chamber and lamp arrangements. A quartz tube that looks similar in a photograph is not necessarily the correct length, diameter or end style. Check your unit’s model label and compare its replacement part specification before dismantling an otherwise working installation.

This listing does not extend compatibility to every Cloverleaf UV product or to another manufacturer’s unit carrying the same wattage. In particular, do not assume that a newer Clear-Glow model uses the same sleeve as an older SmartStart assembly. The stated 48W and 72W fitment should be checked against the equipment you own.

If the lamp also needs renewal, our Cloverleaf SmartStart replacement UV bulbs listing offers individual 24W and 36W options. Check both the lamp rating and quantity required by your unit. A two-lamp clarifier needs its specified pair; the quartz sleeve is a separate item and does not include either lamp.

When a sleeve needs attention

Quartz should be inspected during routine servicing. Deposits on the outside can interfere with the passage of UV light, while chips or cracks can compromise the separation between water and the lamp compartment. Cleaning and replacement are different tasks: an intact dirty sleeve may be serviceable after the approved cleaning process, but damaged quartz should not be put back into use.

Do not attempt to patch a cracked tube with silicone or another adhesive. A repair that appears watertight can still be unsuitable for the chamber, temperature changes or UV exposure. If the existing sleeve has broken, isolate the equipment and deal with the fragments carefully before fitting the correct replacement.

Prepare for a controlled service

Read the instructions for your specific clarifier before starting. Identify how to isolate its electrical supply and manage the water remaining in the chamber. Allow enough room to withdraw the fragile parts without bending them against nearby pipework, walls or filter housings. Keep the replacement protected until the unit is ready to receive it.

Use a clean work area with somewhere secure to place the lamp, covers and seals. Keep small parts in order so that the reassembly sequence is clear. Never look at an illuminated UV-C lamp, and never power a lamp outside its assembled protective housing. Removing the sleeve does not make any live test safe.

Inspect the seals as well as the glass

The sleeve works with the unit’s sealing components, so inspect them whenever the assembly is opened. Look for damage, distortion, trapped grit or an incorrectly seated seal. A new sleeve will not correct a damaged O-ring or cracked holder. Use the correct replacement seals if needed, and do not add an improvised sealant to compensate for a poorly fitting component.

Follow the manufacturer’s sequence when removing and replacing the sleeve. Support the glass and keep it aligned rather than forcing it through a tight opening. If it catches, stop and establish why. Excessive force can damage a new sleeve before the unit has returned to service.

Reassemble, check for leaks and restore flow

After fitting, carry out the water-side checks described in the clarifier instructions before restoring electrical operation. Watch the sealing points and keep the lamp compartment and electrical connections dry. If a leak appears, isolate and inspect the assembly rather than repeatedly tightening a fragile part harder.

Refit the correct lamps and covers only as directed for the model. Confirm that the unit is fully assembled and water is flowing through it before energising the UV. Continue to check the installation after it has returned to normal use. Keep a record of the replacement date and any seals changed at the same time.

Keeping the system effective

A clear sleeve is one part of an effective pond filtration system. The UV works on water passing through its chamber; it does not remove settled waste or replace the biological filter. Maintain the pump, mechanical filter and pipework alongside the clarifier. If performance declines, check the complete water route and the lamp service history rather than assuming quartz alone is responsible.

Browse our UV spare parts for other model-specific service items. Keep different manufacturers’ parts separate when ordering: matching a nominal wattage is not proof that two sleeves or bulbs are interchangeable.
