Cloverleaf Clear-Glow ABS Pond UV Clarifier
The Cloverleaf Clear-Glow ABS range offers a choice of 24W, 36W, 60W and 72W ultraviolet clarifiers for pond filtration systems. Choose the model for your pond and installation, rather than selecting a unit simply because its connections look similar to the equipment being replaced. This listing covers the plastic-bodied Clear-Glow models; Cloverleaf’s stainless-steel and older Eco SmartStart units are separate ranges.
A pond UV clarifier is used alongside a pump and filter to manage green water caused by suspended algae. It treats water passing through its chamber, while the rest of the filtration system still needs to collect waste and support biological filtration. Adding a UV does not turn an undersized filter into a complete solution for a heavily stocked pond.
Compare the four models
| Clear-Glow model | Catalogue pond-volume guide | Oasis reference |
|---|---|---|
| 24W | 12,000 litres | CL001 |
| 36W | 18,000 litres | CL003 |
| 60W | 30,000 litres | CL005 |
| 72W | 36,000 litres | CL007 |
These are the range figures in the current supplier catalogue, not a promise of identical performance in every pond. Fish stocking, feeding, sunlight, water depth and circulation all affect the work a clarifier has to do. Do not interpret a general pond-volume figure as an equivalent heavily stocked koi-pond rating. Check the instructions for the model supplied when planning its flow and position in the system.
Measure the pond before choosing
If the pond volume is not already known, start with its water dimensions. For a rectangular shape, length multiplied by width multiplied by average water depth, all in metres, gives cubic metres. Multiply that result by 1,000 for litres. Shelves and sloping sides reduce the actual volume compared with a calculation based entirely on the deepest point.
Allow for the pond you expect to maintain, including fish growth and feeding, rather than relying on the outside dimensions of the excavation. The model number describes the UV rating; it is not a pump flow rate. A higher-wattage clarifier still needs suitable circulation and a correctly maintained filter to deliver useful results.
Green water and blanket weed need different approaches
Green water consists of algae suspended in the water. Blanket weed grows as strands attached to surfaces and is not carried through the UV chamber in the same way. A clarifier therefore should not be purchased as a direct replacement for physical blanket-weed removal or the maintenance needed to control accumulated organic waste.
Look at the complete system if clarity deteriorates. Check for blocked pump inlets, reduced circulation, dirty mechanical media and accumulated debris. Continue normal water-quality testing: water can look clear while still having a problem that is not visible. A UV clarifier is not a diagnostic tool or a substitute for investigating fish-health concerns.
Plan a serviceable installation
Before fitting the unit, identify its prescribed inlet and outlet arrangement, permitted flow and mounting position from the current instructions. Leave room to remove service parts without having to dismantle a crowded bank of pipework. Support adjoining pipes so their weight does not pull on the clarifier connections, and keep electrical connections protected in accordance with the installation instructions.
Check the actual connection standard before buying adapters. A nominal hose measurement and a pressure-pipe size are not automatically interchangeable. Dry-fit the intended arrangement and confirm that the pump, filter and UV can operate together within their respective limits. Do not apply a pressure rating taken from an older Cloverleaf model to a different Clear-Glow unit.
Operating and maintaining the clarifier
Follow the supplied instructions for filling, checking for leaks and starting the equipment. Keep the chamber assembled during operation and never look directly at an exposed illuminated UV-C lamp. Isolate the electrical supply before opening the unit or carrying out servicing. Do not run a dismantled lamp assembly to see whether it lights.
Record the installation date and the servicing carried out. The lamp, quartz and seals each have a different role, so inspect and replace the component actually required. A glowing lamp is not, by itself, proof that its useful UV output is unchanged. Equally, replacing a lamp does not correct an obstructed water route or a damaged sealing component.
When obtaining spares, use the Clear-Glow model and the component reference specified for that unit. Keep the packaging or a photograph of the identification label. Do not assume that a lamp or quartz sleeve from an older Eco SmartStart clarifier fits because the overall wattage or brand is similar. Multi-lamp units also need the correct individual lamp ratings and quantities.
Compare your filtration options
Our pond UV clarifiers category lets you compare complete units from other ranges. Use the model’s actual pond guidance and installation requirements when comparing, not wattage alone. Our pond pumps and pond filters can help you plan the water circuit as a whole.
Choose a complete Clear-Glow unit here when you need a new clarifier. If an existing unit only needs a service part, identify that part first instead of replacing otherwise serviceable equipment. Pumps, separate pond filters and additional installation pipework are not included in this clarifier listing.
