TMC Pro Clear Ultima UV Clarifiers

High-output 30W and 55W pond UVCs with practical rotating hose connections

TMC Pro Clear Ultima clarifiers expose pumped pond water to germicidal ultraviolet light so suspended single-celled algae clump together and can be captured by the filter. The result is control of green water without adding an algaecide to the pond. These are dedicated external UVC units for larger garden and koi ponds, designed around a water-shedding casing, removable hosetails and connections that rotate through 45° increments to make pipe routing less awkward.

The transparent end caps make it possible to confirm that the lamp is operating without looking directly at an exposed UV tube. They do not prove the lamp is still producing useful UV-C: output declines with age, and scale or biofilm on the quartz sleeve can block transmission even while a blue glow remains visible.

Installation points that matter

  • Install outside the pond in the orientation shown in the TMC instructions.
  • Support the pipework so its weight does not strain the plastic ports.
  • Keep the unit accessible for lamp, sleeve and seal replacement.
  • Do not exceed the maximum flow simply because the pump has a larger label.
  • Use RCD-protected outdoor electrics and isolate both pump and UVC before service.

Flow through a UVC is a balance. Too little circulation leaves parts of the pond untreated; excessive flow reduces exposure time and can exceed the chamber’s rating. Match the clarifier with a suitable filter pump, correctly sized pond filter and generous hose or pipework.

Routine servicing

Renew the lamp at the manufacturer interval, usually before the main green-water season, and clean the quartz sleeve whenever mineral scale or film is visible. Replace damaged or flattened seals rather than overtightening the housing. After any service, refill and leak-test with the electricity still isolated before switching the UVC back on.

Frequently asked questions

Does a UVC remove blanketweed?

No. It principally controls free-floating green-water algae; attached blanketweed needs separate management.

Can I see whether the lamp is working?

The transparent caps provide a safe operating indication, but useful UV output still falls with lamp age and a dirty quartz sleeve.

Can either model be fitted after a filter?

Use the flow arrangement specified by the filter and UVC manufacturers. Many systems place the UVC before the filter so clumped algae are then captured.

Is the maximum pond rating suitable for koi?

Not automatically. Use the lower heavily stocked/full-sun figure and allow for feeding, shade, depth and actual flow.
