Vesuve Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Vesuve’)
Large, fragrant rosy pink to magenta blooms that bring bold colour and elegance to sunny garden ponds.
The Vesuve Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Vesuve’) is a stunning and reliable variety, loved for its large, fragrant blooms that range from soft rosy pink through to rich magenta tones. Ideal for medium to large garden ponds, this waterlily delivers a bold and colourful display that instantly enhances the look and feel of your pond.
Flowering from June to September, Vesuve produces impressive star shaped flowers that sit beautifully on the water’s surface. Each bloom opens wide in full sun, revealing vibrant petals and a warm golden centre that adds depth and contrast. The subtle fragrance makes this variety even more appealing, especially on warm summer days when your pond becomes a relaxing outdoor feature.
The bright green foliage forms a lush canopy of floating leaves, spreading between 90 cm and 120 cm once established. These leaves are not just decorative, they play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy pond. By providing shade across the water surface, they help reduce algae growth, regulate water temperature and create a more stable environment for fish and wildlife.
Vesuve is also an excellent choice for wildlife friendly ponds. The floating pads offer safe resting spots for frogs, toads and newts, while the flowers attract pollinators such as bees and other beneficial insects. This makes it a fantastic option if you are looking to create a balanced and natural pond ecosystem.
This variety thrives in full sun and still water conditions, where it will produce the most vibrant blooms. It performs best at planting depths between 40 cm and 90 cm, making it suitable for a wide range of pond designs.
Hardy and easy to grow in UK conditions, Vesuve is a dependable choice for both new and established ponds. If you are looking for a waterlily that combines strong colour, fragrance and practical benefits, this is a superb addition that will bring your pond to life throughout the summer months.
