Marliacea Chromatella Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Marliacea Chromatella’)
A classic yellow waterlily with soft primrose blooms and beautifully mottled foliage, perfect for brightening garden ponds while supporting a healthy ecosystem.
Marliacea Chromatella Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Marliacea Chromatella’) is one of the most reliable and widely loved yellow waterlilies available. Known for its soft primrose-yellow flowers and distinctive mottled foliage, this variety is ideal for adding gentle colour, natural shade and ecological balance to your pond.
From June through to September, Marliacea Chromatella produces elegant cup shaped blooms that float gracefully on the water’s surface. The flowers are a delicate primrose yellow with a soft, calming tone that works beautifully in both formal and natural pond designs. They open in the sunlight and close in the evening, creating a dynamic and ever-changing display throughout the day.
The foliage is equally attractive and adds further visual interest. The rounded leaves emerge with bronze and maroon mottling before maturing into olive green pads. These floating leaves spread across the pond surface, providing valuable shade that helps reduce sunlight penetration into the water. This natural shading plays a key role in limiting algae growth and improving water clarity, making this plant both decorative and functional.
Marliacea Chromatella is a vigorous waterlily that can spread approximately 1 m to 1.5 m across once established. It is best suited to medium and larger ponds where its mottled pads have enough room to develop without crowding neighbouring plants.
Marliacea Chromatella thrives in still water and performs best in full sun, where it will produce the most abundant flowering. Once established, it is very low maintenance and will return year after year, making it a dependable long term addition to your pond.
This variety also plays an important role in supporting pond wildlife. The floating leaves provide resting areas for frogs, toads and insects, while the flowers attract pollinators. Together, these benefits help create a more balanced and biodiverse pond environment.
For pond owners looking for a reliable yellow waterlily with excellent coverage, soft colour and strong performance, Marliacea Chromatella is a superb and proven choice.
