Calibration before testing

The pH600 uses manual, one-point calibration with fresh pH 7.01 buffer. Use the calibration trimmer as directed in the Milwaukee instructions. A digital display does not remove the need for calibration: checking the instrument is part of obtaining a useful result.

Taking a reading

Remove the protective cap and immerse the electrode only to the indicated level. Gently stir the sample and wait for the reading to settle. Rinse the electrode between samples, avoiding contact with the delicate glass sensing surface. Keep the electronic housing out of the water.

Storing the electrode

Milwaukee specifies electrode storage solution MA9015. Keep the protective cap fitted and follow the storage instructions so that the sensor does not dry out. Do not store the electrode in distilled, deionised or reverse-osmosis water. Cleaning, storage and calibration solutions are separate consumables.

Power and portability

The pen uses three 1.5V alkaline button batteries. Milwaukee lists approximately 700 hours of battery use under its stated conditions. Replace weak batteries and recalibrate if readings become inconsistent; a slow or unstable response can also indicate that the electrode needs cleaning or conditioning.

Using the result in pond care

Record the pH alongside the time and other water-test results. This instrument measures pH only: it does not test ammonia, nitrite, carbonate hardness or dissolved oxygen. Investigate an unexpected result and confirm the measurement before making changes to the pond.
