Arc En Ciel Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Arc En Ciel’)
Delicate pale pink blooms with striking variegated foliage, perfect for adding colour and interest to medium and large garden ponds.
The Arc En Ciel Waterlily (Nymphaea ‘Arc En Ciel’) is one of the most distinctive and visually striking waterlilies available, combining soft, elegant flowers with beautifully variegated foliage. Ideal for medium to large garden ponds, this variety offers year round interest, even when not in bloom.
Flowering from June through to September, Arc En Ciel produces delicate star shaped blooms in the palest shade of pink, often appearing almost white in bright sunlight. Each flower features a subtle blush tone and a warm golden centre, creating a refined and understated display that sits gracefully on the water’s surface.
What truly sets this waterlily apart is its foliage. The lily pads are uniquely marbled with shades of green, red brown, cream and pink, creating a striking patchwork effect across the pond surface. This variegation adds colour and texture even outside of the flowering period, making Arc En Ciel a fantastic choice for visual impact throughout the season.
With a spread of around 80 cm to 100 cm, this variety is well suited to medium and larger ponds, providing excellent surface coverage. The floating leaves help to shade the water, reducing algae growth and maintaining a more stable pond environment. This not only improves water clarity but also creates a more comfortable habitat for fish and aquatic life.
Arc En Ciel is also highly beneficial for wildlife. The broad lily pads provide shelter and resting areas for amphibians such as frogs and newts, while the flowers attract pollinators. This helps create a balanced and thriving pond ecosystem.
Hardy and easy to grow, this waterlily thrives in full sun and still water conditions. It performs particularly well in slightly shallower planting depths, making it a versatile option for a range of pond designs.
If you are looking for something a little different, with both elegant flowers and eye catching foliage, Arc En Ciel is a standout choice that brings colour, texture and life to your pond.
