Kockney Koi 8 mm Airline Connectors – Straight, Elbow and T-Piece Packs
Join, turn or branch your airline with two matching fittings
These airline fittings are offered in three forms: a straight connector for joining two lengths in line, a 90-degree elbow for changing direction, or a T-piece for joining three hose ends at a branch. Each supplier pack contains two fittings of the selected type. Choose the shape for the route your airline needs to follow, and match the stated 8 mm fitting size to your airline before ordering.
| Option | Purpose | Pack |
|---|---|---|
| Straight connector | Join two airline sections in line | Two straight connectors |
| 90-degree elbow | Change the airline direction at a right angle | Two elbows |
| T-piece | Join three hose ends at a branch | Two T-pieces |
A straight connector and an elbow each join two airline ends. The T-piece joins three hose ends and allows you to introduce a branch. It does not balance the airflow between branches; hose length, diffuser resistance and water depth affect how the air divides. These fittings also do not provide an air-adjustment tap or a non-return valve, so plan those functions separately where your aeration setup requires them.
Check the airline dimensions rather than relying on its outside appearance. Airline is sold with different wall thicknesses and size descriptions; the number printed for its outside diameter is not necessarily the size of the opening. Keep the original airline specification available when choosing a matching connector.
Which connector should you choose?
Choose the straight twin pack when two airline lengths need to continue in the same direction. This can be useful when extending a run or joining a replacement section to sound existing hose. Each connector makes one joint between two hose ends, so a pack supplies two separate joints. If you are replacing a damaged section between two retained lengths, there will be a joint at each end of that replacement section.
Choose the elbow twin pack when the airline needs a defined right-angle turn, for example where a run changes from horizontal to vertical beside the pond. An elbow changes the direction of the connection; it does not increase the air pump’s output or compensate for an undersized airline. Leave room around the fitting so that the connected hose is not being pulled sideways or trapped against the surrounding equipment.
Choose the T-piece twin pack when you need a branch to separate air stones or other suitable aeration equipment. Allow sufficient pump capacity for every connected outlet. If you need separate adjustment of each branch, add suitable flow-control valves or choose a manifold with individual taps. Adding another outlet does not increase the air available from the pump.
Matching the fitting to your airline
All three options are supplied in Kockney Koi Yamitsu packaging labelled 8 mm. They have barbed ends that enter the hose, rather than threaded ends for screwing directly into a pump body. Check the hose opening and the pump connection separately: a pump outlet may require its own adaptor even when the airline further along the run uses 8 mm fittings.
If you also need hose, our standard sinking airline page includes an 8 mm internal-diameter option. Select the required diameter as well as the length. Do not select the 4 mm option simply because it is listed on the same page. When replacing an existing fitting, comparing the original hose specification is more reliable than estimating the size from a photograph.
For another weighted hose choice, compare the 8mm option of our Evolution Aqua Heavy Duty Sinking Airline. Select the bore before choosing the length. These connectors do not change whether the hose itself sinks.
Planning a tidy airline run
Measure the actual route the airline will take, including changes in direction and enough accessible hose for future maintenance. A straight-line measurement between pump and pond can underestimate the length needed around a filter housing or through an equipment area. Position joints where you can inspect them, and avoid leaving a connector under tension when a lid is opened or nearby equipment is moved.
Use the number of joints needed for the layout rather than adding fittings unnecessarily. If an existing length is brittle, split or otherwise deteriorated, replacing that length is preferable to repeatedly patching different points. A connector joins the ends presented to it; it cannot restore the condition of damaged airline elsewhere in the run.
Checks when fitting and maintaining the connection
Follow the instructions for your air pump and airline when working on the system. Inspect each hose end before assembly and make sure it is clean and undamaged. Do not force a visibly mismatched hose onto a fitting. Support the run so that the joint is not carrying the weight of a hanging accessory or being repeatedly bent during routine pond maintenance.
After reconnecting the system, check the joints and confirm that air reaches the intended outlet. If delivery is poor, also inspect the rest of the airline for kinks and check the connected diffuser according to its own maintenance instructions. Replacing a connector will not resolve every cause of reduced air delivery. Recheck accessible connections after moving the pump, changing an air stone or rearranging the hose route.
What is included?
Each selected pack contains two matching connectors: two straight fittings, two 90-degree elbows or two T-pieces. It is not a mixed pack. Airline, air pump, diffuser, adjustment taps and non-return valves are purchased separately. Select the connector shape before adding the pack to your basket, particularly if you need straight joints, corners and branches for the same installation.
Working with smaller 4mm airline?
For the smaller hose size, choose our Kockney Koi 4mm Airline Connectors, available as straight joiners, 90-degree bends and T-pieces in packs of five. Match the fitting to the airline bore; the 4mm and 8mm connectors are separate sizes.
