SMART HUB-300 is In-Lite’s high-capacity 21V smart transformer for large gardens and professional-scale compatible lighting schemes. It provides a maximum 300 VA installation value across three independently controlled outputs, with up to 130 VA permitted on an individual line. The higher 21V low-voltage output supports substantially longer compatible cable runs than the 12V HUB models.

The transformer is the heart of an In-Lite installation. Choosing it correctly is not just a matter of buying the largest number: the total fixture load, number of control zones, cable routes, compatible accessories and the way the garden will be used all matter.

How the controls and lighting zones work

The In-Lite app connects through Bluetooth Low Energy and controls each cable output separately. This allows a large site to be divided into three meaningful zones, such as arrival and access, planted garden areas, and terraces or feature lighting. As with the other SMART HUBs, routines and compatible smart fittings are managed from the app.

Calculate the transformer load in VA

This transformer has a maximum connected lighting load of 300 VA and three independently controlled cable outputs, with a maximum of 130 VA per line. Add the VA value of every fitting in the proposed scheme; do not add only the wattage. The VA figure allows for the real electrical load placed on the transformer and is the value In-Lite uses for system sizing.

We recommend keeping a written load schedule showing every fitting, its quantity, its individual VA and the output to which it will be connected. Leave a sensible allowance if the garden may be expanded later, but do not select a technically unsuitable transformer simply because it has more capacity.

21V compatibility warning: Do not assume that every older 12V In-Lite fitting can be used on SMART HUB-300. Current manufacturer and UK supplier information specifically excludes DB-LED, HYVE, HYVE 22, FUSION, FUSION 22 and LIV WALL. Use the current compatible DOT or DOT 22 alternatives where appropriate, and check every proposed fixture before ordering.

Plan the cable outputs as real garden zones

Use 10/2 system cable and follow the SMART HUB-300 manual and current In-Lite planning limits. In-Lite states a maximum cable length of 160m and a maximum load of 130 VA on an individual output. These are design limits, not targets: voltage loss, route layout, fixture compatibility and maintenance access must all be checked before installation.

Run the In-Lite CBL system cable where it can be reached for future changes and connect fittings with their supplied EASY-LOCKs. The cable does not need to form a closed loop. Protect the end with the correct CABLE CAP and use approved In-Lite cables and connectors rather than improvised underground joints.

Safe position and weather protection

The transformer enclosure is IP23. Mount it vertically, at least 50cm above ground, and in a covered position where it is not exposed to rain or snowfall. If a suitable indoor or sheltered position is not available, use the correctly sized SMART HUB PROTECTOR 2. A protective cover supports correct installation but does not make a poor, flood-prone or inaccessible location acceptable.

Connect the UK mains lead only to a correctly installed suitable socket. Any new socket, fixed mains wiring or alteration to the mains supply must be completed by a competent electrician. Leave enough clear space to operate the controls, inspect the cables and remove the transformer if service is ever required.

What else is required to build the system

The transformer does not include the whole lighting circuit. You will also need genuine system cable, the chosen In-Lite lights and an EASY-LOCK for each fixture. Depending on the design, you may need CBL-EXT fixture leads, splitters, protective cable caps, motion or smart-control accessories and glare-control fittings.

Start with a simple plan of the garden. Mark the transformer, cable routes, each fitting and the features to be illuminated. Then calculate VA and cable lengths. This sequence produces a much more reliable order than choosing attractive lights first and trying to make the electrical layout fit afterwards.

Which In-Lite transformer should you choose?

For most domestic gardens, SMART HUB-150 is the easier and more widely compatible choice. Select SMART HUB-300 only after calculating the real VA load and confirming that every proposed fitting is approved for this transformer. It should not be chosen merely to obtain unused spare capacity.
