Hailea G Series A7000 Pond Filter is a compact gravity-return pond filter with an integrated 11 W ultraviolet clarifier. It is intended for garden ponds up to the supplier’s published maximum of 8,000 litres, with a maximum recommended flow of 4,000 litres per hour. The combined mechanical, biological and ultraviolet stages make it a practical option where a straightforward above-ground filter is preferred.

Water is pumped from the pond into the filter, passes through the filtration stages and returns by gravity. Because the return is not pressurised, the outlet must remain unrestricted and the filter must be installed above the final return point. Actual capacity depends on fish load, feeding, sunlight, water temperature and maintenance; heavily stocked or koi ponds should be sized more conservatively than the headline maximum.

Choosing the right size

The published pond figure is a maximum for favourable conditions. Reduce it for koi, heavy stocking, frequent feeding, full sun or warm summer water. The selected pump should provide useful turnover after allowing for lift, hose length, bends and fittings, while remaining within the filter’s 4,000 litres per hour flow limit. Oversizing the pump can force water through too quickly or overwhelm a gravity outlet.

Installation and maintenance

Place the filter on a firm, level base above the return point, keep the gravity outlet free of restrictions and use hose sizes that do not unnecessarily reduce flow. Protect outdoor electrical connections with suitable RCD protection and follow the supplied instructions. The UVC should never be operated outside its housing or without water flowing through the unit.

Clean mechanical media when flow starts to fall, but avoid washing all mature biological media in untreated tap water. Replace the UV lamp at the manufacturer’s recommended interval and clean the quartz sleeve when deposits reduce light transmission. During freezing weather, follow the winter-storage instructions and prevent trapped water from damaging the housing or UVC.
