Blagdon Energy Saver 2 in 1 Waterfall & Utility Pumps

Choose the 12500 or 23500 for waterfalls, water transfer and drainage

The Blagdon Energy Saver 2 in 1 range combines a pond-pump layout with a vertical utility-pump arrangement. Use the large intake cage for a waterfall or pond installation, or configure the pump for suitable drainage and water-transfer jobs. Both models have a magnetic-drive digital motor, a gradual start and automatic detection of water loss.

Choose between the 135W 12500 and the larger 190W 23500 by comparing their flow at the height of your installation. The model numbers are names, not the measured maximum litres per hour: Blagdon’s technical table gives maximum flows of 7,190 and 13,636 litres per hour respectively. This distinction matters when deciding which pump will deliver the waterfall effect you want.

Do not connect these pumps to a pressure filter. Blagdon warns that their generated pressure exceeds the safe limits for pressure filters. If your installation uses a pressurised canister, choose a suitable alternative from our pond pump range and match it to the filter manufacturer’s limits.

The dimensions above include the cage. Allow additional space for the hose connection, the bend in the hose and access to the clips when deciding where to place the pump. Maximum flow and maximum lift are separate limits; the pump cannot deliver its maximum flow at its maximum lifting height.

Compare flow at your waterfall height

Blagdon provides a performance table for both models. At 1m lift, the listed flows are 6,372 litres/hour for the 12500 and 12,280 litres/hour for the 23500. At 3m, those figures become 3,702 and 9,510 litres/hour. At 5m, they are 2,178 and 5,720 litres/hour. These comparisons are more useful than choosing solely by the model name.

Measure the vertical lift and consider the hose route, diameter and fittings. Long runs and restrictions affect the water reaching the outlet. Discuss the complete route with us if you are matching a pump to a particular waterfall width, rather than assuming the zero-head maximum is what will arrive at the top of the feature.

Pond mode and utility mode

For waterfall and pond use, the horizontal arrangement uses a large intake cage with a quick-release clip fastening. Its broad intake area spreads the incoming flow and provides access for routine cleaning. Check the openings regularly, particularly after leaf fall or whenever the water delivery begins to change.

For utility work, the vertical arrangement uses rubber isolation feet and a low-level intake. Blagdon states a minimum starting water depth of 41mm and drainage down to 9mm. The pumps handle solids up to 6mm. Those limits should be checked against the water and debris involved in the job; remove larger loose material before it reaches the intake.

Included hose fittings

Each model includes a multiple hose fitting for ¾, 1, 1¼ and 1½ inch hose, a garden-hose fitting for ½ or ⅝ inch hose, a G¾ garden-hose adaptor, three rubber feet and an intake foam pre-filter for optional use. Select the connection appropriate to the application before modifying a stepped fitting. Hose lengths are chosen separately to suit the installation.

Check the required hose bore at both ends of the run. A fitting that physically connects does not by itself establish that the complete system will achieve the flow you need. Leave the pump accessible so that the cage, hose connections and intake can be inspected without disturbing the finished waterfall.

Soft start, water-loss protection and installation

The soft-start function increases impeller speed over approximately 30 seconds, bringing the flow up gradually. If the pump detects that its impeller is without water, its protection system pauses operation and checks for water before restarting. Treat this as protection against a problem, not permission to deliberately run the pump dry.

Both models have a 10m cable and IPX8-rated pump body. They are supplied without a fitted mains plug. Follow the electrical installation instructions, use the specified RCD protection and have a qualified electrician deal with any uncertain wiring. Disconnect the supply before lifting, opening or servicing the pump, and never lift it by its cable.

Keep the Blagdon pump manual for the performance table, installation diagrams and cleaning procedure. Blagdon supplies the range with a three-year guarantee; retain your proof of purchase and follow the guarantee conditions and maintenance guidance.
