Set the finished access level before backfilling

The vault should stand vertically and its lid must remain reachable after the rock and gravel are installed. Set the height against the final landscaping level rather than the excavated base. If the wetland bed is deeper, use the correct V2 extension rather than burying the lid or improvising an inaccessible chamber.

Leave a clear route for the cleanout pump

Allow enough room above the vault to lift the lid, lower and retrieve the cleanout pump, and route the discharge hose safely away from the pond. A pump and hose should be chosen around the actual lift, sediment load and disposal route. Keeping these service details in mind during construction makes future cleaning considerably easier.
