Waterco MicroBeast MB20 Pond Filter – Supplied Without Media
The Waterco MicroBeast MB20 is a compact pressure filter for koi and ornamental pond systems. Its UV- and corrosion-resistant Exotuf vessel houses up to 50 litres of compatible biological media, while the multiport valve provides straightforward filtration, cleaning and waste positions.
This SKS model is supplied without filter media. That is important when comparing prices: the correct quantity of compatible media must be ordered separately and allowed for in the overall system cost.
Where the MB20 fits in the range
- Vessel diameter: 500 mm
- Nominal media capacity: 50 litres
- Maximum stated flow: 10,228 L/hour (2,250 gph)
- Connections: 1.5 inch
- Maximum vessel pressure: 3.5 bar / 50psi
Compare the MB20, MB24 and MB28 before ordering. Moving up a vessel size increases both potential flow and media volume, but the complete choice must also suit the pond’s waste load and the pump’s actual duty.
Use a coarse pre-filter
A sieve, drum or solids separator should remove leaves and heavy waste before water reaches the MicroBeast. This reduces the amount of stored dirt, helps extend cleaning intervals and leaves the media in better conditions for biological treatment.
Installation and maintenance
Leave enough room to operate and remove the multiport valve, disconnect unions and route dirty water to waste. Never change valve position while the pump is running. Check the current Waterco/SKS instructions for the chosen media, filling quantity and cleaning sequence before commissioning.

Frequently asked questions
Is K1 Micro or other media included?
No. Supplier SKUs FS0864, FS0865 and FS0866 are explicitly the no-media versions.
Can I run the filter without media?
No. The vessel needs the correct compatible media and filling quantity to perform its intended mechanical and biological role.
Does maximum flow equal the best operating flow?
No. The stated figure is an upper guide. Water quality, fish load, media, pre-filtration and required contact time matter.
What warranty applies?
Current trade literature states a 10-year tank warranty and one year on other components, subject to the manufacturer terms and correct installation.
