Micro-Beast MB20 (inc 50L Micro K1)
The Waterco MicroBeast MB20 is a compact pressure filter supplied with 50 L K1 Micro. Water is driven through a packed bed of K1 Micro, where the media captures fine suspended solids while its protected surface supports the bacteria that process dissolved fish waste.
A multiport valve directs filtration, backwash and rinse cycles without opening the vessel. The design is convenient in a tidy plant room, but it still needs effective coarse pre-filtration; leaves, blanketweed and heavy waste should be removed before they reach the packed media.

Pump, pre-filter and backwash planning
Choose the circulation pump from the required delivered flow after the resistance of the MicroBeast, UV, pipework and height. Bead-style filters create more head than an open multi-bay, and the pump must also provide the backwash performance specified by the manufacturer.
Fit unions and isolation around the valve, provide a full-bore waste route and leave enough headroom to remove the lid or valve. During backwash, follow the exact valve sequence and switch the pump off before changing positions.
Our practical view: A MicroBeast can produce very polished water, but it should not be the pond’s leaf trap. A sieve, drum or other coarse separator ahead of the pump protects the K1 Micro bed and greatly reduces the frequency and water cost of backwashing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the K1 Micro supplied?
Yes. This listing includes 50 L K1 Micro.
Does it need a pre-filter?
Strong coarse pre-filtration is recommended so large solids do not pack into the media bed.
Can I turn the valve with the pump running?
No. Stop the pump before changing any multiport-valve position.
How often should it be backwashed?
Use pressure rise, flow reduction and pond conditions rather than a fixed calendar. Heavily fed koi ponds may need frequent cleaning.
Is the maximum flow my target flow?
Not automatically. Select a working flow that suits the pond, biological load and acceptable pressure loss.
