Thermotec Neo 15.5kW Inverter Swimming Pool Heat Pump

Extend the swimming season with adjustable output and Wi-Fi control

The Thermotec Neo 15.5kW is a single-phase inverter heat pump for extended-season swimming pool heating. Its published output is 4.05–15.50kW at 27°C air and 26°C inlet water, and 2.20–11.40kW at 15°C air and 26°C inlet water. It requires 6.3m³/hour water flow and has a net weight of 60kg. Check those requirements against the planned position and circulation system before ordering.

This range should be chosen according to the installation and heating duty. The supplier recommends Thermotec Edge rather than Neo for new pond heating applications requiring dependable winter capacity. If your main aim is to heat a koi pond throughout the year, compare our pond air source heat pumps before selecting a Neo.

How the Neo inverter system works

The Neo transfers heat from outdoor air into water circulated through the heat exchanger. Inverter operation enables the fan and compressor to vary their speed instead of operating at only one fixed output. When the pool is approaching its target, the unit can reduce its output to suit the remaining demand. The actual operating pattern depends on the weather, pool heat loss, selected temperature and circulation schedule.

The 15.5kW heating rating is separate from electrical consumption. For this Neo model, the manual lists 4.05–15.50kW of heat output with 0.40–2.63kW electrical input at 27°C air and 26°C inlet water. At 15°C air and the same inlet water temperature, the corresponding figures are 2.20–11.40kW of heat and 0.35–2.59kW electrical input. These are performance ranges under stated test conditions, rather than a fixed electricity draw.

Compare performance in cooler conditions

Use the cooler-air output when comparing options for the beginning and end of the swimming season. A heat pump selected only from its warm-weather headline rating can be a poor match for an exposed pool or a higher target temperature. Compare the same test condition across models, then consider your pool cover, insulation, local weather and intended dates of use.

The manual gives a heating ambient operating range of −7°C to 43°C and a water setting range of 9–40°C. The ability to operate in cold air does not make a small Neo an equivalent replacement for a larger winter pond heat pump. Pool volume, cover use, wind exposure, insulation and desired temperature all affect the duty that needs to be met.

Water flow and physical dimensions

The following figures apply to this model in the Neo manual. Dimensions are the unit dimensions, not the larger space required for airflow, pipework and servicing.

Model 15.5kW
Water flow 6.3m³/hour
Dimensions L × W × H 1047.5 × 453 × 770.5mm
Net weight 60kg
Heating output A27/W26 4.05–15.50 kW
Heating output A15/W26 2.20–11.40 kW
Supply 220–240V single phase, 50Hz
Connections 50mm
Heating settings 9–40°C
Operating air range −7–43°C
Electrical input A27/W26 0.40–2.63kW
Electrical input A15/W26 0.35–2.59kW
COP A27/W26 10.1–5.6
COP A15/W26 6.2–4.4
Maximum water pressure drop 6.0kPa

The specified models use a 220–240V single phase, 50Hz supply and 50mm water connections. The electricity circuit must be designed for the selected model and installation. Do not assume that every size can use the same plug, cable or circuit simply because they share a range name.

Plan the position before installing the heater

The horizontal fan needs a clear discharge route and a free supply of outside air. Avoid small enclosed spaces where cold exhaust air can circulate back into the unit. The manual’s clearance diagram should be checked before placing the heater beside a fence, wall or equipment housing. Keep access to the controller and service panels, and allow space to disconnect water unions when necessary.

A stable base and suitable condensate drainage are important parts of the installation. Consider nearby seating areas and neighbouring windows when deciding where the fan will discharge. The sound level changes with operating speed, so the lowest noise figure should not be treated as a description of every operating condition.

Connect the heater to the filtration circuit

Water must be circulated through the Neo by a separate pool pump. The installation diagram places the heat pump after the filter, with any chemical dosing arrangement installed in the correct downstream position. A bypass makes it possible to adjust flow through the heater and isolate it when maintenance or seasonal draining is required.

Check the available flow after the filter and pipework losses rather than relying only on a pump’s maximum advertised output. Support the pipework independently so it does not place unnecessary strain on the heater connections. The flow switch is a protection device; it is not a substitute for correctly sizing and commissioning the water circuit.

Get more from the heat you produce

Use an appropriate pool cover when the pool is not in use and reduce avoidable heat losses from exposed pipework. A cover can be especially valuable overnight, when the air cools and evaporation continues. Set a realistic target temperature and circulation schedule for the season, allowing time for the initial warm up rather than expecting a cold pool to reach temperature immediately.

Wi-Fi control uses a separate module and the Aqua Temp app; it is not built into the heater. The module must be connected and configured before remote control is available. The unit still depends on a suitable electrical supply, water circulation and network setup. Follow the supplied controller and Wi-Fi instructions during commissioning. COP figures are measured under stated test conditions and should be compared on a like for like basis when considering running costs.

Maintenance and winter shutdown

Keep the air passages clear, maintain the filter and inspect the water circuit for restrictions. If the heater is not going to operate during freezing weather, drain it in accordance with the manual. Do not leave water trapped in an idle heat exchanger and assume its cold weather operating rating will protect it without circulation or power.

The Neo contains R32 refrigerant. Installation, electrical work and refrigerant servicing should be handled by competent professionals. Browse our swimming pool heating equipment to compare suitable options, and give us your pool dimensions, cover details and intended swimming season if you need help selecting the model.

Installation manual

Read the Thermotec Neo installation manual before planning the water circuit, electrical connection and outdoor clearances. Keep the instructions supplied with your exact unit for installation, controller settings and maintenance.

Warranty and support

UK Thermotec Neo warranty cover includes two years for component parts and labour, with five years for the compressor and heat exchanger. Installation errors and frost damage are excluded. Retain your purchase and installation records; contact us for help arranging support.

Compare other Thermotec Neo models

Check the heating output, required water flow and electrical supply on each individual model before choosing. Compare the same air and water test conditions, and allow for your pool cover and intended swimming season.
