Takazumi Gold Plus Koi Food
Floating daily food with astaxanthin for colour and balanced nutrition
Takazumi Gold Plus is a complete floating koi food for keepers who want one balanced daily ration with support for natural colour. Its formula contains 35% crude protein and 7% oils and fats, together with astaxanthin. The floating pellets make feeding easy to observe, so you can watch which fish are eating and adjust each portion before uneaten food builds up.
Choose from 1kg, 2.5kg, 4.5kg and 10kg packs. The smaller sizes suit a modest collection, a change of food or a shorter feeding period, while the larger packs suit ponds that use more food regularly. Pack size changes the quantity supplied; it does not change Gold Plus into a different formula.
What Gold Plus offers your koi
Gold Plus combines fish meal, fish and vegetable oils, cereals, wheat germ, amino acids, minerals, trace elements and a premix. Takazumi includes astaxanthin as a pigment supporting ingredient. This makes Gold Plus a useful option when colour is part of your feeding plan alongside everyday nutrition, rather than choosing a food solely for the highest protein percentage.
Colour develops within the limits of each fish’s genetics and condition. Food is one part of keeping koi well, alongside suitable water quality, oxygen and consistent care. Judge a new ration by appetite, body condition and how comfortably the pond manages the feeding load; adding more food is not a shortcut to better colour.

If you are comparing Gold Plus with another food, compare the feeding temperature, pellet behaviour and intended use as well as the protein and oil figures.
When to feed Gold Plus
Takazumi describes Gold Plus as suitable across the seasons and instructs keepers to stop feeding at water temperatures of 4°C or below. Above that limit, feed according to actual appetite and pond conditions. A calendar month or a warm afternoon alone does not tell you how much your koi are ready to eat.
Measure pond water temperature and watch the fish. In changing spring and autumn weather, keep portions modest and reassess them as conditions change. If the koi leave food, reduce the next portion rather than allowing an automatic routine to keep delivering the same quantity. Remove accessible leftovers before they deteriorate.
Using floating pellets effectively
Offer a small portion where you can see the fish clearly, then allow them to take it before adding more. Spreading food across a suitable feeding area can help you see whether less assertive fish are getting access. Watch individuals as well as the group: a few eager koi can make the whole pond appear hungrier than it is.
Floating food also helps you notice pellets drifting towards a skimmer or overflow. Choose a feeding position that keeps the ration available to the fish. Do not count food removed by the filtration system as food the koi have eaten. If using a feeder, check its actual output into a dry container and observe several feeds before relying on its settings.
Choosing the right pack size
A 1kg pack is convenient when trying Gold Plus with an existing collection or feeding a smaller number of fish. The 2.5kg option provides a larger supply without committing to the largest bag. For ponds already using Gold Plus regularly, 4.5kg and 10kg packs reduce how often you need to replenish the food.
Base your choice on how much the fish currently eat, allowing for seasonal changes. For example, at a measured total ration of 50g a day, 1kg represents about 20 days of food and 2.5kg about 50 days. This is a pack planning example, not a recommended daily ration; the correct amount depends on your fish and conditions.
How Gold Plus compares with other Takazumi foods
For a warmer water growth programme, compare Takazumi High Growth, which has a different nutritional analysis and feeding temperature. Takazumi Mix combines Gold Plus and High Growth in one floating food blend. Choose between them according to the pond temperature and the role you want the food to fulfil.
If you want both surface and sinking feeding opportunities, Takazumi EasyMix combines floating Gold Plus with sinking Easy. For condition support and cooler season feeding, consider Takazumi Vital. Follow the temperature guidance for the selected formula rather than carrying one product’s instructions across the whole range.
Keeping the food fresh
Keep the pack closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and use a clean, dry scoop. Avoid opening it where rain or pond water can enter. If transferring a working quantity into a smaller container, retain the original label and date information and keep the container clean before refilling it.
Follow the storage directions and best before date on the pack. Buy a quantity that suits realistic use, especially when feeding slows towards winter.
