Pontec Artificial Floating Pond Plants

Choose PondoLily flowers or the PondoHyacinth foliage decoration

Pontec floating pond decorations add a plant-like finishing touch without planting baskets, aquatic compost or a growing season. Choose the colourful PondoLily or the foliage-shaped PondoHyacinth to suit the effect you want. Both are artificial decorations made from weather-resistant plastic and include an attachment point underneath, giving you the option to position them more deliberately instead of leaving them to drift across the surface.

These are a simple way to decorate a small garden pond, an ornamental water bowl or an open area between existing plants. They can also be useful while newly planted water lilies are establishing. Each item is sold individually, so you can start with one decoration and add more once you have seen how it looks from your usual viewing position. Select the design required before adding it to your basket.

PondoHyacinth

14cm diameter. Artificial floating hyacinth foliage; one decoration supplied.

PondoLily is the more colourful option, with the manufacturer showing pink, violet, orange and white versions. The assorted-colour listing supplies one lily in an available colour. A photograph showing several colours illustrates the range; it does not mean that four flowers are included. PondoHyacinth is the alternative when you prefer the appearance of green floating foliage rather than a prominent flower.

Where to place your floating decoration

Begin by placing the decoration in a calm section of water and looking at it from the patio, path or window where you normally enjoy your pond. Its position will change the effect: a single flower near the edge creates a small focal point, while a loose group can soften a larger open area. Leave space between decorations so that the water remains visible and you can still observe the fish.

Wind and moving water can carry a floating decoration towards one corner. The fastening eye beneath each item gives you an attachment point if you want to keep it in a chosen area. Use a suitable pond-safe fixing arrangement that cannot enter a pump or create loose loops around fish. Allow for changes in water level and check the placement after rain or maintenance.

Keep the decorations away from skimmer mouths, pump intakes and the immediate landing area of a waterfall. A strong current can continually push them out of position, and ornaments should never obstruct equipment. If you use a pond net, leave enough room to remove the net without catching or dragging the decorations. Positioning them within easy reach also makes occasional cleaning simpler.

Artificial decoration and living pond plants

PondoLily and PondoHyacinth provide a decorative appearance rather than the biological benefits of growing plants. They do not absorb nutrients as living plants do and should not be counted as oxygenating plants. Continue to manage filtration, aeration and water quality according to the needs of your pond and fish.

If you want real seasonal growth and flowers, our Alba water lily is one of the living alternatives to explore. Living lilies need the right planting position and depth, whereas these Pontec decorations float without a planted root system. You can use both approaches in the same pond, keeping the artificial pieces clear of emerging shoots and leaves.

Do these decorations have lights?

Neither option on this page is illuminated. There are no batteries, cables or solar panels to install. If evening lighting is the effect you want, see the separate Pontec PondoSolar Lily LED Set 3. That is a different product with a lighting function, rather than another colour option for the unlit PondoLily.

Cleaning and looking after the finish

Lift the decoration out periodically to remove leaves and inspect the underside and attachment point. A gentle rinse and a soft cloth will help remove surface dirt. Avoid abrasive pads that can mark the finish, and keep household cleaning chemicals away from the pond. Make sure the decoration is clean before returning it to the water.

Weather-resistant material still benefits from sensible care. Inspect any tether or fixing regularly, especially if the decoration repeatedly rubs against stone edging. If you remove it for winter or drain the feature, let it dry and store it somewhere clean where it will not be crushed. Check the product and its fixing again before putting it back out.

Choosing how many to buy

Measure or visualise the 14cm and 17cm sizes against the available water surface before ordering. Small decorations can look lost on a large pond, while too many can crowd a compact bowl. Start with a restrained arrangement, keeping feeding and viewing areas open. The two designs can be combined when you want both foliage and flowers, with each selected item priced and supplied individually.
