Philips TUV PL-L Pond UV Replacement Lamps
These Philips TUV PL-L lamps are compact UV-C replacements with a single-ended four-pin 2G11 connection. Choose 18W, 24W, 36W or 55W to match the lamp specified for your clarifier. The wattage, lamp form, base and dimensions all need to match the equipment.
Available lamps
| Lamp option | Supplied quantity |
|---|---|
| 18W TUV PL-L / 4-pin 2G11 | One Philips lamp |
| 24W TUV PL-L / 4-pin 2G11 | One Philips lamp |
| 36W TUV PL-L / 4-pin 2G11 | One Philips lamp |
| 55W TUV PL-L / 4-pin 2G11 | One Philips lamp |
Each selection supplies one Philips lamp. It does not include a clarifier, quartz sleeve, seal, ballast or electrical control assembly. These compact PL-L options should not be selected solely because another replacement tube has the same wattage.
Manufacturer specifications
| Nominal lamp | Base | Maximum overall length | Useful life |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18W PL-L / 4P | 2G11 | 227mm | 9,000 hours |
| 24W PL-L / 4P | 2G11 | 322mm | 9,000 hours |
| 36W PL-L / 4P | 2G11 | 417mm | 9,000 hours |
| 55W PL-L / 4P | 2G11 | 542mm | 9,000 hours |
The length figures are the manufacturer’s maximum overall C dimensions, including the lamp’s complete end arrangement. They are not the length of the glass alone. The useful-life specification is a manufacturer figure, while the clarifier’s own service schedule determines when its lamp should be replaced.
UV-C output and visible light
Philips specifies short-wave UV-C radiation with a peak at 253.7nm for the TUV range. These are specialist UV-C lamps for suitable enclosed equipment. They are not ordinary white-light PL-L lamps or decorative ultraviolet lamps, even when those products use a similar-looking base.
The nominal lamp wattage is not a pond-volume rating. The complete clarifier design, water flow, quartz condition and required service schedule affect its operation. Changing to a more powerful lamp is not an approved way to uprate a clarifier designed for a different lamp.
Identify the replacement before ordering
Check the clarifier model and its lamp specification in the manual. Compare the markings on the old lamp where they remain readable, including TUV PL-L, wattage and the four-pin base. A compact two-pin PL-S lamp and a straight T5 or T8 tube have different connections and should not be treated as the same option.
Check the available internal space and the specified electrical driver. A matching nominal wattage does not prove that a different lamp form or high-output version suits the control gear. Keep the replacement within the combination documented for the equipment.
Keep the original equipment details
Retain the clarifier model, selected lamp and replacement date with your maintenance notes. This is particularly useful where several UV units are used on the same pond or where a model has different generations. An accurate record is easier to work from than an estimate based on the outside size of the housing.
Our pond UV bulb range includes other lamp forms and replacement choices. Compare the stated manufacturer and connection as well as the wattage. Our TMC UV replacement lamps are another model-specific range to check against the relevant TMC equipment.
Replacing the lamp
Switch off and disconnect the unit according to its instructions before opening it. Allow the equipment to cool and follow the prescribed method for accessing the lamp. Do not operate a UV-C lamp exposed outside its protective housing or override the equipment’s protective arrangements.
Handle the lamp carefully and keep the glass clean, using the method stated in the clarifier instructions. Inspect the lamp holder, accessible contacts and surrounding components. Replace damaged parts with the correct model-specific components rather than forcing a lamp into a worn or incompatible holder.
Inspect the quartz and seals
The quartz sleeve has a separate role from the replacement lamp. Follow the clarifier’s cleaning procedure and check its condition while servicing the unit. A damaged sleeve or seal needs attention before the equipment is returned to use; fitting a new lamp does not repair that damage.
Reassemble the unit exactly as its manual describes, including all required seals and guards. Make the water-route and leak checks specified by the manufacturer before restoring electrical operation. Use only the intended indicator or inspection method to check that the unit is operating.
Routine service planning
Follow the clarifier’s lamp-change interval and record the work. A lamp that remains visibly lit is not, by itself, proof that the equipment is delivering its intended UV-C performance. Keep the quartz and the rest of the filtration system maintained alongside the lamp schedule.
