Oase AquaOxy 500 Pond Air Pump

A compact aeration kit with two air stones for garden ponds up to 5,000 litres

The Oase AquaOxy 500 provides dedicated aeration for a garden pond, with a maximum air output of 500 litres per hour and an 8-watt motor. Supplied with two air stones, two lengths of airline and a Y distributor, it lets you position the bubbling outlets in two parts of the pond while running a single compact pump. This is the UK AquaOxy 500, Oase product code 57567.

Oase rates this model for ponds up to 5 cubic metres, equivalent to 5,000 litres. That is a useful starting point when choosing a pump, but the demands of a heavily stocked fish pond can be greater than those of a lightly stocked ornamental pond of the same volume. Consider the fish load, water temperature, diffuser position and existing circulation as well as the pond’s capacity.

What is included?

  • One Oase AquaOxy 500 air pump.
  • Two 5-metre lengths of air hose.
  • Two aeration stones.
  • One Y distributor for splitting the pump’s single outlet between the two air lines.
  • Two replacement membranes, as listed in the Oase operating manual.

The two supplied hoses provide a total of 10 metres of airline, rather than a separate 10-metre run to each stone. Plan the route from the pump before cutting the hose, allowing enough length to reach the chosen positions without pulling the connections tight. Keep the runs as short as practical and protect them from kinks, crushing and accidental damage.

Choosing the right amount of aeration

The AquaOxy 500 fits between the smaller Oase AquaOxy 250 and higher-output models in our pond air pump range. Its twin air-stone arrangement is useful where you want aeration in two locations without installing two separate pumps. For a larger pond or one with substantial fish stocking, compare the Oase AquaOxy 1000 and the available output carefully before settling on the smallest model.

The quoted 500 litres per hour is the maximum air delivery. The amount reaching the stones depends on the resistance of the installation, including water depth, hose length and the condition of the stones. The 0.2-bar pressure specification should not be treated as a promise of full output at a particular depth. If you are unsure about a deep pond or a demanding fish system, tell us the depth and stocking when asking for advice.

Aeration complements the pond’s filtration and water circulation. It does not remove suspended waste or replace the biological filter. Continue maintaining the filter and checking water quality, particularly during warm weather or after changes to fish stocking. The air pump can provide a separate source of water movement even when the main circulation is arranged around a waterfall or fountain.

Positioning the pump and air stones

Install the pump on a stable, horizontal surface in a position protected against flooding. Oase’s instructions require it to be above the water level, to prevent water flowing back into the pump, and at least 2 metres from the water. The pump remains outside the pond; only the airline and stones go into the water. Keep the plug and socket dry and follow the electrical requirements in the supplied manual.

Connect the hoses to the stones and Y distributor, then connect the distributor to the pump. Lay out the lines without sharp bends and position the stones where the bubbles can rise freely. Switching on is straightforward: the pump starts when connected to its power supply. Check both stones are bubbling and inspect the hose route if one outlet appears restricted.

Maintenance and replacement membranes

Air stones, the air filter and the membranes are wear components. If airflow falls, start with the accessible causes: look for a kinked or damaged hose, dirty stones or a blocked air filter. Oase recommends cleaning or replacing these components as appropriate. A defective membrane can also cause reduced air delivery or unusual noise; the manual specifies replacing both membranes together.

Disconnect the pump before maintenance and isolate equipment used in the water before reaching into the pond. Follow the model’s instructions for opening and reassembling the housing so its seals and cable restraint are correctly positioned. Use compatible original replacement components. If the unit is taken out of service over winter, Oase advises storing it indoors in a dry room; follow the operating manual for continuous winter use and permitted conditions.
