Oase AquaOxy 250 Pond Air Pump

A compact 4W aeration set for smaller garden ponds

The Oase AquaOxy 250 adds a dedicated air supply to a small garden pond, with a pump, airline and air stone supplied together. It is a useful choice when you want gentle, localised aeration without installing a much larger multi-outlet air pump. Its maximum air output is 250 litres per hour, and Oase rates it for ponds up to 3,000 litres. The pump uses 4W, making it a modest continuous electrical load alongside your pond’s existing filtration.

The model number refers to litres per hour, not litres per minute. At its maximum stated output, 250 litres per hour is approximately 4.17 litres per minute. This distinction matters when comparing it with larger koi pond air pumps, which are commonly advertised in litres per minute. Choose it for a suitably sized small pond rather than as a direct substitute for a large filter-bed or lake aeration system.

What the set does for your pond

The submerged stone releases bubbles that move water locally and encourage gas exchange. An air pump complements a water pump and filter: it does not collect solid waste, replace biological filtration or remove the need to maintain good water quality. Keeping these jobs separate makes it easier to understand what to add when a pond needs more aeration but its existing filter is otherwise suitable.

Pond volume is a starting point when sizing aeration. Fish numbers, feeding, temperature, plant growth and the amount of organic debris also affect oxygen demand. A heavily stocked pond can need more air than a lightly stocked pond of the same volume. If you are choosing equipment for a growing koi collection, leave room for that increased demand instead of selecting solely from the maximum pond-volume figure.

Positioning the pump and air stone

Follow the supplied installation instructions: place the pump above the water level, at least two metres from the pond, on a stable, level surface protected from flooding. The pump is designed for outdoor installation with splash protection, but must not be submerged. Protect the electrical connection from moisture and use the RCD protection specified in the manual.

Plan the hose route before placing the pump. Avoid pinching the airline under a lid, trapping it behind a heavy object or leaving it across a walkway. Use only the length needed for the installation, while leaving enough slack for servicing. Position the stone so that you can retrieve it for cleaning without pulling on the pump’s electrical cable.

The maximum pressure figure is not a guarantee of full airflow at every depth. Water depth, the resistance of the stone and the hose all affect the delivered air. Check the bubble pattern after installation. If your intended position needs substantially more pressure or several aeration points, choose a larger pump suitable for that duty rather than assuming a splitter will increase the available air.

Running costs and everyday care

At its stated 4W consumption, continuous operation uses approximately 0.096kWh per day, or 35.04kWh over a 365-day year. Multiply those figures by your own electricity tariff to estimate the energy cost. This calculation covers the air pump alone; your water pump, UVC and other equipment have their own consumption.

Keep an eye on the normal bubble pattern so a reduction is easy to spot. Check for a kinked hose, a dirty air stone or an obstructed air intake before assuming that the whole pump needs replacing. Cleaning and service intervals depend on the installation and the amount of dirt reaching the components. Disconnect the electricity before carrying out maintenance and follow the model-specific instructions.

Oase lists replacement membrane set 72924, air stone 22079 and 10m air hose 15253 for this model. The manual says to replace both membranes when servicing a failed membrane. Match spare parts to AquaOxy 250 and the relevant part number; similar-looking components from another AquaOxy model are not automatically interchangeable.

Is this the right air pump for you?

Choose the AquaOxy 250 when you need a compact, low-consumption set for a small pond and a single air stone. For a larger pond, several diffusers or a substantial biological filter, compare the Oase AquaOxy 1000 before ordering. The most useful comparison is the air delivered for your intended installation, together with the supplied accessories and the pressure requirement.

The set is also straightforward to identify when maintaining an existing installation: the model is AquaOxy 250 and the Oase product code is 34064. If you are unsure whether it suits your pond, tell us the approximate volume, depth, fish stock and where you intend to place the air stone. Those details are more useful than the pond’s surface dimensions alone.
